Caregiver Position
Performs a variety of routine care-giving functions in giving direct and indirect care to residents. Duties and responsibilities include:
- Providing resident care services.
- Assisting residents with activities of daily living (dressing, grooming, bathing, toileting, assisting with meals and menus) according to their service plan.
- Reacting calmly in emergency situations and following appropriate procedures by notifying on-call staff, physician, family/responsible party, contacting services required for care.
- Accurately filling out incident reports and notifying physician and responsible party and following-up on final disposition of incident reports.
- Accurately documenting on all forms and in charts an issue that arise with residents.
- Providing housekeeping and laundry services.
- Cleaning all surfaces thoroughly in each resident apartment and facility according to schedule.
- Reporting items in need of repair to maintenance and manager.
- Using chemicals properly and safely.
- Maintaining inventory of supplies and notifying manager when items are needed. Documenting housekeeping duties on appropriate form.
- Sorting laundry to prevent damage.
- Washing clothing and linen in proper chemicals and cold temperatures.
- Making residents' beds as requested. Providing transportation for residents to doctor appointments, shopping and other services.
- Assisting with activities as directed by manager.
- Maintaining confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
- Providing service direct to residents while maintaining a positive resident relations atmosphere.
- Interacting with medical staff members on a continuous basis.
- Following safety guidelines and policies for Assisted Living facility and entire Hospital District.
Job qualifications include:
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
- Job related skills: Ability to read and write required. Effective oral and written communication skills, the ability to comprehend and follow verbal or written instructions, and a knowledge of residents' rights.
- Licensure, registry or certification: None required.
- Experience: One-year experience in a medical setting preferred. Current CPR within 3 months of hire date.
- Physical and mental requirements: Duties of the position require extended periods of standing and walking. Bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional heavy lifting when moving or supporting residents who may suddenly become weak or helpless.
