As a leader in Guns Engineering, the Mechanical Engineering Manager 2 manages the production support, supplier support, supplier development and test engineering functions. This position is located onsite in Mesa, Arizona. Responsibilities:Lead and manage the production support engineering, supplier support engineering, supplier development engineering and engineering test functions at the Mesa siteSets role and performance expectations, provides feedback, coaching, training and growth opportunities for direct reportsSuccessfully manages assignments and forecasts future demand such that the engineering functions are appropriately staffed and have the correct skill setsEnsures compliance and provides guidance to staff on interpretation of operating procedures and process documentsProvides outstanding engineering support to the Mesa Guns Business Unit including:Experimental and development testing of medium caliber weapon systemsTesting of medium caliber weapons systems integrated into vehicle / turretField support of medium caliber weapon systemsLiaison with Manufacturing Operations to resolve production and assembly issuesParticipation on Material Review BoardParticipation in the various integrated product teams for new product development, during production and during development of new suppliersWorks with the supply base to improve the design of various medium caliber weapons systems components to make them more manufacturable with fewer defectsCoordination with other functions to successfully resolve technical issues and provide concise communication to customers and senior leadershipDrives continuous improvement of engineering tools, laboratory capability, production test methods and technical capabilitiesEnsures that design for manufacture and assembly is optimized during the design process of all new Mesa productsLeads and coordinates continuous improvement projects benefiting the department and other functionsCoordinates with customers and NG program representative to plan and support testingPart of the Mesa Site engineering leadership teamBasic Qualifications:Bachelor of Science in a STEM field & 8+ years of related experience, OR a Masters degree in a STEM field & 6+ years of related experience in Mechanical or Manufacturing EngineeringA deep understanding of the design for manufacturing and assembly processUnderstanding of Six Sigma disciplines, design for assembly / design for manufacturing (DFA/DFM) is preferredA deep understanding of mechanical testing processes including instrumentation and data acquisitionPrior experience in the design of mechanical equipment is highly desiredPrior experience working in an engineering classification in manufacturing environment is highly desiredU.S. CitizenPosition may require domestic and international travel, up to 10%Preferred Qualifications:Bachelors degree in a mechanical or manufacturing engineering10+ years of experiencePrevious leadership experience of an engineering teamDemonstrated effectiveness in achieving results through understanding and management of internal processes and customer/supplier relationshipsStrong oral and written communication skills with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing prioritiesDemonstrated experience in making sound decisions in uncertain and difficult situationsDemonstrated strength in technical writingDemonstrated experience working with customers to ensure project successPrimary Level Salary Range: $126,600.00 - $189,800.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
