The University of Maryland School of Medicine is seeking board‑certified Cardiothoracic Surgeons or individuals who have completed accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery residency or fellowship to join the full‑time faculty of the Division of Cardiac Surgery. The selected faculty member will establish a broad Cardiac Surgery practice at the University of Maryland Medical Center, conduct independent clinical or laboratory research, treat complex cardiac surgery patients at the Downtown Campus, contribute to the division’s growth across the Medical System, and educate medical students, surgery residents, and fellows.

Responsibilities

• Develop and expand a comprehensive Cardiac Surgery practice at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
• Conduct independent clinical and laboratory research and pursue scholarly activities that gain national and international recognition.
• Teach and supervise all facets of cardiac surgery for integrated thoracic surgery trainees.
• Collaborate with researchers within the Department of Surgery and across the University to enhance the Division’s research portfolio.
• Participate in the Division’s 6‑year Cardiothoracic Training program and Cardiothoracic Fellowship.

Qualifications

• Board certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery, or completed training in an accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery residency or fellowship program.
• Clear plan for clinical practice development, academic advancement, and scholarly activity aligned with the mission of the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary academic medical center.

The referenced salary range for this position is $690,750 – $1,173,827, reflecting base pay based on faculty rank and years in rank. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, and market conditions.
