Wildland Firefighter (Fire Dispatching)

Wildland Firefighter (Fire Dispatching) Location: Cody, Wyoming Minimum Qualifications GW-06 level: One year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GW-05 level. Examples include receiving and reviewing fire incident reports, working with dispatch computer programs, and determining fire resource needs. GW-07 level: One year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GW-06 level. Examples include lead dispatch duties, directing others, providing incident logistical support, making efficient facility recommendations, and determining appropriate resource responses to incidents. Note: There is no option to qualify for the 0456 series using education at either grade level. Additional Requirements Applicants for the secondary fire‑fighter administrative position must possess knowledge of wildland firefighting principles, as demonstrated by direct wildland firefighting experience. Provide a written description of your experience. Education alone does not meet this requirement. Physical Demands The work involves long hours of sitting, intense concentration, and working at peak proficiency levels with irregular breaks and mealtimes. You must cope with the pressure of meeting timeframes and changing priorities. Mental concentration and accuracy are required. Vehicle and aircraft travel associated with field visits and other administrative travel may be required, and you must be able to remain calm under urgent and frequently changing conditions. Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in an office setting. During peak activity, increased radio traffic, numerous ringing phones, and conversations create high noise levels, requiring a high level of concentration.
