RN ICU Step-Down

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the ICU and Step-Down ICU units is responsible for delivering expert nursing care to critically ill patients at a Level 1 Trauma Center. This role requires strong clinical skills in intensive care, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, medication administration, patient assessment, and individualized care planning. The nurse will also support patient safety, documentation standards, and participate in performance improvement initiatives. A current Illinois RN license and certifications in CPR, ACLS, and NIHSS are required. Responsibilities:

• Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in ICU and Step-Down ICU settings.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments following approved nursing techniques, policies, and state laws.
• Document patient care and clinical observations according to standards of care and regulatory requirements.
• Develop, initiate, and execute individualized patient plans of care, including patient and family education.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive patient management.
• Participate in unit or departmental performance improvement and shared governance activities.
• Provide clinical expertise and guidance to other units or departments to support patient care continuity.
• Apply critical thinking to enhance patient safety and experience, escalating concerns appropriately through chain of command.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in Illinois.
• Current CPR, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with verified education.
• Minimum of 2 years of ICU nursing experience, preferably at a Level 1 Trauma Center.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and critical care skills.
• Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration abilities.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working in both ICU and Step-Down ICU environments.
• Participation in performance improvement or shared governance initiatives.

Special Considerations:

• Must be willing to float between ICU and Step-Down ICU units as needed.
• Work environment includes critically ill patients requiring close monitoring and rapid response.

Scheduling:

• Night shift schedule from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
• Shift assignments based on unit needs and staffing requirements.
