The Hutchinson Campus consists of 173 acres with fifteen buildings including two multi‑story residential student dormitories. The Hutchinson Campus is home to the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC). A unit of The University of Kansas (KU), KLETC serves as the central agency for all law enforcement training in the State of Kansas. KLETC manages a $12 million annual budget, 65 authorized FTE staff (augmented by more than 400 contract/adjunct staff annually), and trains nearly 15,000 students annually in residential, online, and outreach programs. KLETC serves 437 recognized law enforcement and police agencies in Kansas, providing basic training and continuing education programs throughout each fiscal year. This position will perform routine custodial work through KLETC campus buildings, to include residential dormitories and bath areas. Job Description 60% Common Areas, Offices, Classrooms, and Residential Areas Cleans and maintains common areas, offices, classrooms, student dormitory rooms, fitness areas, gymnasium spaces, and other assigned areas. Vacuums, spot cleans, bonnets, and extracts carpeted floors and upholstered furniture using appropriate equipment. Cleans and maintains hard-surface floors using established procedures and specialized equipment. Dusts and polishes furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces. Returns furniture to standard arrangements and assists with furniture moving and room setups. Cleans walls, windows, doors, blinds, drinking fountains, and other assigned surfaces. Empties waste receptacles and properly disposes of nonhazardous waste. Cleans and sanitizes exercise equipment and disinfects exercise mats. Assists with setting up and storing mats and equipment used for training classes. Performs periodic deep cleaning of offices, classrooms, dormitory rooms, and other areas as directed. Completes all work in accordance with established cleaning procedures and safety requirements. 20% Restroom and Bath Facilities Cleans and sanitizes restroom and bath fixtures, including toilets, urinals, sinks, showers, mirrors, countertops, floors, tile walls, partitions, and hardware. Empties waste containers and sanitary product receptacles. Monitors and replenishes paper products, soap, and other consumable supplies before they are exhausted. Cleans floor drains and adds water according to the established schedule. Performs periodic deep cleaning and treatment of toilets, urinals, showers, and other restroom surfaces. Uses proper procedures and personal protective equipment when responding to blood, vomit, bodily fluids, needles, or other possible biohazards. Completes required training and follows all safety procedures for handling chemicals, contaminated materials, and potential bloodborne pathogen exposure. 10% Facility and Student Support Locks and unlocks interior and exterior building doors as directed or scheduled. When needed, assists with Sunday student check-in, verifies housing information, assigns dormitory rooms, provides room access, and directs students to their assigned housing areas. Inspects assigned areas for maintenance, safety, or security concerns and submits work orders when repairs require skilled maintenance staff. Reports damaged or missing property, unauthorized furniture in student rooms, suspicious activity, and other concerns to the appropriate supervisor. Collects and turns in lost property according to established procedures. Assists with event setups, furniture and appliance moves, laundry operations, snow removal, and treatment of sidewalks and other walking surfaces. Cleans laundry rooms, washers, and dryers and folds laundered items as needed. 10% Other duties as assigned. Position Requirements Valid Kansas driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire. Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds constantly and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Must be able to work on ladders. Physical strength sufficient to stand the strain of working long hours at custodial tasks. Ability to work under a variety of extremes of temperature and weather, both inside and outdoors. Willingness and ability to work overtime or temporary change in schedule, as needed. Willingness and ability to respond to after‑hours emergencies as needed. Required Qualifications None required. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of materials, methods, and practices used in cleaning operations. Custodial experience in large residential or commercial buildings. Knowledge of and experience with the operation, use, and care of vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbing machines, polishing machines, and other janitorial equipment.
