Center for Hope and Safety, located in Bergen County NJ, is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting survivors of domestic violence and their children. We believe every person has the right to be safe, empowered, and free from violence.

The Overnight Residential Assistant/Custodian Specialist will receive food and household deliveries, stock the facility, and provide facility cleaning and maintenance.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Carry and stock items in refrigerators, freezers, pantry shelves, and in basement storage.
• Place boxes in the recycling shed.
• Assemble perishables/non-perishables food boxes.
• Remove trash from offices, conference rooms, and staff bathroom daily.
• Clean, vacuum, sweep, and mop offices, staff bathroom, and conference room weekly.
• Break down cardboard daily and drop off all recycling weekly.
• Clean out refrigerators monthly.
• Disinfect mattresses, sweep and mop floors, dust molding, wipe down closets, and clean client bathrooms as needed.
• Perform general housekeeping duties such as dusting, washing inside windows, and cleaning ceiling fans, moldings, emergency signs, stairs, doors, and walls.
• Perform maintenance such as changing light bulbs, unclogging toilets, tubs, and sinks, installing children’s bed railings; replacing broken blinds, assembling small furniture, painting, and making other repairs to the building.
• Pick up trash and ensure handicap ramp landing and external fire escapes are clear of debris and leaves.

• Role model and support new staff in completing responsibilities.
• Support supervisor in training new employees. 
• Adhere to proper boundaries with clients.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all survivor and organizational information. 
• Demonstrate professionalism, cultural humility, and respect in all interactions. 
• Support the Center's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and survivor empowerment. 
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors, case managers, or directors to support agency operations and the evolving needs of survivors. 

Requirements:

Qualifications

• HS diploma required; Bachelor’s degree or Associate's degree in Human Services plus one year related work experience preferred
• Knowledge of nutrition and meal prep desired
• Prior DV experience a plus
• Driver's license and own car required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the organization
• Strong organizational, communication, and computer (Microsoft and Google Suite) skills required

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds
• Must be able to go up and down stairs to bring donations, groceries, and inventory down
