Dietitian

Duties

Help

  • Prepares nutrition care plans for each patient/family with short-term and long-term goals that are mutually developed and adopted.
  • Provides counseling that is evidence based and patient focused and specifically relevant to the expressed needs of the patient
  • Effectively educates the patient on culturally appropriate nutrition therapy.
  • Evaluates patient information/data in order to identify their needs for specific interventions, services, and educational programs.
  • Collaborates with the medical staff and other health care providers to ensure coordination with the overall care plan.
  • Utilizes effective oral and written communication between patients, families, and members of the health care team.
  • Develops, coordinates, and evaluates nutrition materials for patient use.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position meets the criteria specified in pillar number one of the five pillars of the PHS Commissioned Corps. PHS Commissioned Officers interested in performing the duties of this position within the Commissioned Corps MUST apply online under the merit promotion announcement indicated above in order to receive consideration.
