Pennsylvania Hospital is seeking a professional and highly organized Medical Secretary to provide essential administrative and clerical support within the Operating Room. This position plays an important role in coordinating surgical services, supporting physicians and clinical staff, assisting patients and visitors, and maintaining an efficient environment for daily departmental operations.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong communication and organizational skills, professionalism, teamwork, attention to detail, and a commitment to patient-centered service.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a primary liaison between the Operating Room and professional/medical staff, nursing and clinical staff, department visitors, patients, and the community.
• Provide receptionist and front-desk support, including answering telephone calls and greeting patients, visitors, physicians, and other hospital personnel.
• Assist with the organization and coordination of functions necessary for the efficient delivery of surgical services.
• Support the orderly and effective completion of Operating Room clerical responsibilities.
• Obtain, duplicate, assemble, organize, and maintain health information records in accordance with departmental requirements.
• Assist with the patient admission process when necessary, including verifying demographic information and obtaining bed assignments.
• Coordinate with patient support services for in-house escorts, admissions, CPD, and other necessary services.
• Maintain competency in computer applications and technology related to word processing, surgery scheduling, and billing processes.
• Manage confidential departmental information appropriately and within established timeframes.
• Maintain an organized, professional environment that supports optimal departmental functioning.
• Respond promptly to telephone calls, emails, requests, and other communications.
• Attend meetings and participate in departmental activities as requested.
• Complete assigned projects and responsibilities accurately and in a timely manner.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year of medical secretary experience.
