Low Voltage Technician – Job Description Overview A Low Voltage Technician installs, maintains, and repairs systems that operate on low voltage wiring (typically under 50 volts). These systems include data networks, security systems, door controls, interlock, badge readers and request to exit sensors. Key Responsibilities Install, terminate, and test low voltage cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, fiber optic, coaxial, etc.) Set up and maintain systems such as: Door controls (card readers, interlock systems and other programmed components) Powered swing, sliding, high speed roll up’s Security cameras (CCTV) Access control systems Fire alarm systems (where permitted/licensed) Structured cabling and data networks Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams Troubleshoot and repair wiring and system issues Mount and install equipment (racks, panels, devices, cameras, etc.) Ensure compliance with safety standards and local codes Label and document installations accurately Test system functionality and perform quality checks Provide basic training or support to clients when needed Required Skills & Qualifications Knowledge of low voltage systems and wiring techniques Ability to use tools such as cable testers, multimeters, and punch-down tools Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills Ability to read technical drawings and layouts Physical ability to climb ladders, lift equipment, and work in various environments Good communication and teamwork skills Valid driver’s license Preferred Qualifications Experience with fiber optic installation and splicing Certifications (e.g., AAADM certification) Experience with specific systems (e.g., door controls, security platforms, AV systems) Previous experience in construction, electrical, or telecom fields Work Environment Indoor and outdoor May require working at heights, in confined spaces, or varying weather conditions Salary (Typical Range) $28-$33 non-licensed $35-$41 licensed or certified (Varies by experience) This position does not provide visa sponsorship. Estimated compensation for this position: 58,000.00 – 85,280.00 USD per year This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
