Safety, Health, and Environmental Consultant

Position Summary

This is a contract role through Trinity’s Engineering & EHS Workforce Solutions business line based onsite at our client’s chemical processing facility located in the Greater Phoenix area. The EHS Leader will provides leadership, direction, and technical expertise to ensure compliance with all environmental, health, safety, and security requirements while supporting safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. This role drives continuous improvement in safety culture, regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and environmental performance across the facility. The incumbent partners closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams to achieve zero injuries and world-class EHS performance. The estimated duration of the project is 3 to 6 months. Project duration or extension is not guaranteed.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership

  • Lead and promote a strong safety culture throughout the facility.
  • Develop and implement site safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Facilitate hazard assessments, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and risk evaluations.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Track corrective actions and ensure timely completion.
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, and behavioral observations.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, ADEQ, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain required permits, records, and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate inspections and regulatory agency interactions.
  • Manage reporting requirements, including Tier II, TRI, hazardous waste, and environmental permits.

Environmental Stewardship

  • Manage air emissions, wastewater, stormwater, and waste programs.
  • Monitor environmental performance metrics.
  • Drive waste reduction and pollution prevention initiatives.
  • Support other environmental improvement or sustainability projects as requested.

Process Safety Management

  • Support Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP) requirements.
  • Participate in Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), and Process Hazard Analyses (PHA).
  • Ensure compliance with chemical manufacturing safety standards.
  • Support emergency preparedness and response activities.

Training and Employee Development

  • Develop and administer EHS training programs.
  • Ensure employee qualification and compliance training requirements are met.
  • Coach supervisors and employees on safe work practices.
  • Support contractor safety management programs.

Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze safety and environmental performance data.
  • Identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Lead site EHS improvement initiatives and projects.
  • Support corporate Responsible Care and operational excellence objectives.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
  • 5+ years of EHS experience in chemical manufacturing, petrochemical, specialty chemicals, or a similar industrial environment.
  • Experience with OSHA Process Safety Management regulations preferred.
  • Experience leading audits, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance programs.
