Engineering Technician
Job Description
The Engineering Technician plays a key role in the design, assembly, testing, and verification of satellite electric propulsion systems. In this role, you apply sound engineering principles to execute assigned projects, support propulsion system production and testing, and maintain detailed technical documentation and databases. You collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to validate requirements, develop test architectures, and ensure propulsion subsystems meet performance and quality standards in a fast-paced, cutting-edge space environment.
Responsibilities
Execute the design, analysis, and evaluation of assigned propulsion-related projects using sound engineering principles while adhering to established standards, practices, procedures, and program requirements.
Perform propulsion system assembly, functional testing, and quality control activities by following detailed work instructions and formal test procedures.
Develop and maintain propulsion assembly documentation at the subassembly level, including assembly reports, non-conformance reports, test procedures and setups, tooling documentation, and manufacturing drawings.
Maintain and update test and inventory databases associated with propulsion production activities to ensure accurate tracking of components, hardware, and test results.
Troubleshoot and support investigations into component anomalies and failures, including performing root-cause analysis and recommending appropriate dispositions and corrective actions.
Develop reference performance test plans and procedures for propulsion hardware, identifying required equipment and designing test setups that meet technical and safety requirements.
Provide hands-on technical support for the production and testing of satellite propulsion systems, including electric propulsion assemblies and associated hardware.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support requirements validation, contribute to test architecture development, and assist in the implementation of production work instructions for propulsion subsystems.
Work closely with subsystem leads, systems engineering, and integration and test teams to build strong working relationships and ensure alignment on technical objectives and project milestones.
Generate verification and validation plans for propulsion subsystems and partner with integration and test teams to confirm that subsystem requirements are fully met.
Understand and support component and subsystem interfaces, ensuring proper integration of propulsion hardware with other spacecraft systems.
Prepare and deliver clear, concise technical presentations to peers, leadership, and customers as needed to communicate status, findings, and recommendations.
Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule to support production and test operations and meet project deadlines.
Perform additional related duties as required to support propulsion engineering, production, and test activities.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in electric propulsion or avionic assembly and testing.
Strong knowledge/experience in assembly, operation, and/or testing, with proven experience executing detailed work instructions and test procedures.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment, collaborating with systems, integration, and test teams.
Ability to adapt and remain effective in a fast-paced and dynamic setting with evolving priorities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to prepare documentation and present technical information clearly.
Hands-on experience with testing processes and methodologies for propulsion or electro-mechanical systems.
Proficiency working with wire harnesses, including assembly, routing, and verification.
Experience with electro-mechanical systems, including assembly, operation, and troubleshooting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications (nice to have or preferred)
Experience performing precision assembly work on complex electro-mechanical or propulsion hardware.
Familiarity with using oscilloscopes for signal measurement and diagnostic testing.
Experience operating signal generators in support of test setups and performance verification.
Knowledge of ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) controls and best practices when handling sensitive electronic components.
Hands-on soldering experience for electronic and electro-mechanical assemblies.
Experience working with vibration tables for environmental and qualification testing of hardware.
Familiarity with sensors and actuators used in propulsion or electro-mechanical systems, including calibration and functional verification.
Experience performing calibration activities on test equipment or sensors to ensure accurate measurements.
Proven ability to contribute within a cutting-edge space technology environment focused on satellite and space exploration systems.
Work Environment
This position is fully onsite, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The role is primarily based on the manufacturing floor, providing direct, hands-on involvement with propulsion assemblies, test equipment, and production hardware. You work closely with engineering, integration, and test teams in a fast-paced, high-tech space exploration environment that emphasizes precision, safety, and collaboration. The setting includes regular use of test instruments such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, vibration tables, and calibration equipment, as well as interaction with sensors, actuators, and wire harnesses. The work environment supports cutting-edge satellite propulsion development and offers opportunities to contribute to innovative space exploration initiatives.
