Manual Machinist (Lathe-Focused)

This role focuses on setting up and operating manual machining equipment, with a strong emphasis on manual lathes and some work on manual mills. You will use your machining expertise to produce precise components from blueprints in a fast-paced manufacturing environment on the 2nd shift.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual lathes to produce parts according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Perform manual machining operations on lathes and mills, ensuring accurate dimensions and high-quality finishes.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining operations, sequences, and required tooling.
  • Select, install, and adjust appropriate tooling, fixtures, and machine settings for each job.
  • Inspect parts during and after machining to verify conformance to specifications, making adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and follow all safety procedures while operating machinery.
  • Monitor machine performance and report any mechanical issues or irregularities to the appropriate personnel.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and quality standards.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience setting up and operating manual lathes in a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
  • Hands-on experience operating manual mills in addition to lathes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of manual machining processes, including turning, facing, drilling, and basic milling operations.
  • Capability to select and use appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machine settings.
  • Attention to detail with a focus on dimensional accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to work independently on 2nd shift (2:00 pm 11:00 pm) while maintaining productivity and safety.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience in an indoor manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience operating and setting up various types of manual machines.
  • Familiarity with basic inspection tools and measurement techniques.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Reliability and consistency in meeting production and quality expectations.

Work Environment

This position is based in an indoor manufacturing facility with a dedicated machine shop area. You will work primarily on manual lathes and manual mills during the 2nd shift from 2:00 pm to 11:00 pm. The environment includes standard production noise and activity, with access to machining equipment, tools, and inspection instruments. Appropriate work attire and adherence to safety practices and protective equipment requirements are expected at all times.

This is a Contract position based out of Tulare, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
