Position Summary

The Elementary Teacher is responsible for delivering a high-quality, comprehensive education and cultivating a positive, successful, and engaging learning environment for all students in a unique cross-cultural setting. This role is vital for driving student achievement through effective instruction, classroom management, and adherence to all health and safety standards.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education
• Current Type T Alaska Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Elementary Education
• Highly desirable: Demonstrated ability to live and work effectively in a cross-cultural setting.

Essential Functions:

Instruction and Student Development

• Drive student learning and demonstrate measurable student achievement.
• Develop comprehensive and detailed lesson plans.
• Develop, locate, and integrate necessary materials to support teaching lessons.
• Administer and score various tests to evaluate pupil progress and the effectiveness of the educational program.
• Develop yearly professional and classroom goals.
• Refer students to specialized physical, mental, social, and educational services that are not offered within a regular, self-contained classroom.

Classroom Management and Compliance

• Promote and maintain a physical classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Manage student discipline problems responsibly and effectively.
• Ensure the classroom meets all health and safety standards in accordance with state laws.
• Keep accurate and current records of student achievement and attendance.
• Works a full day in accordance with state/federal and negotiated policies.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Bering Strait School District is located in western Alaska.
