RN Emergency Room Nurse

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department provides direct nursing care to patients of all ages in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols. This role involves assessing patient conditions, developing and implementing care plans, responding to emergencies, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary care team. The nurse also provides patient education to ensure safe discharge and maintains certifications relevant to emergency nursing. Responsibilities:

• Perform daily rounds on patients to ensure quality customer service and address unmet needs.
• Develop individualized plans of care based on comprehensive assessments of physical, psychological, social, and developmental needs.
• Assess patient conditions, set nursing goals, and implement appropriate nursing actions including discharge planning.
• Promptly assess, intervene, and reassess patient pain symptoms and take necessary actions.
• Identify early warning signs of patient condition changes and respond appropriately, including contacting clinicians.
• Assist with or initiate emergency measures for sudden adverse patient developments.
• Report and document pertinent patient observations and reactions accurately and concisely.
• Ensure timely interventions or referrals are made as needed.
• Complete and submit all incident reports prior to shift completion.
• Maintain communication and provide education and counseling to patients and their families.
• Begin discharge planning and education early to optimize patient and family understanding.
• Delegate nursing interventions within scope of practice and competence.
• Perform other duties as assigned to meet department and organizational needs.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in North Dakota or Compact State Agreement prior to start date.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) certification upon qualification.
• Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification upon qualification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Minimum of 1 year nursing experience preferred.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working in emergency or critical care environments.
• Strong interdisciplinary team collaboration skills.
• Excellent communication and patient education abilities.

Special Considerations:

• Must be able to work night shifts, typically 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
• Assignment is a 13-week contract.
• Shift schedule includes 3 twelve-hour night shifts per week.
• Open to blocked scheduling on weekends (Friday-Sunday), but weekday block scheduling cannot be guaranteed.
• Every other weekend and holidays scheduled per unit guidelines.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule consists of 3 twelve-hour night shifts per week, generally from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
• Scheduling includes every other weekend and holiday shifts as per unit requirements.
• Weekend block scheduling (Friday through Sunday) may be available; weekday block scheduling is not guaranteed.
