Pharmacist Position at Northern Maine Medical Center
Northern Maine Medical Center located in Fort Kent, Maine is seeking a full-time pharmacist. The pharmacist will work in the inpatient pharmacy department on rotating shifts, including on-call and weekend coverage.
The hospital provides acute health services to families around the St. John Valley as a 49-bed hospital. It also encompasses Forest Hill Rehab & Skilled Nursing Center, a 45-bed skilled nursing and rehab facility, and 7 health centers strategically located in the area.
The pharmacist performs direct patient care by performing distributional, clinical, educational, and informational functions for patients regarding medication therapy.
Key success factors include ensuring positive patient outcomes regarding medication therapy, serving patients by reviewing, adjusting, verifying, and dispensing physician medication orders, and providing pharmacologic information to multidisciplinary health care teams.
Essential functions include preparing and reviewing medication orders, maintaining accuracy of patient profiles, dispensing medications accurately, managing medical emergencies, overseeing pharmacy technicians, fostering a team environment, coordinating medication storage area inspections, adhering to infection control protocols, developing pharmaceutical knowledge of hospital staff and students, maintaining strict confidentiality, and managing sterile, non-sterile compounding and hazardous medication compounding.
Requirements include a graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy, a license to practice as a pharmacist in the State of Maine, and one to three years of hospital pharmacy experience preferred.

Physical demands include moving about the hospital and pharmacy, observing details at close range, remaining stationary for extended periods, communicating information accurately, operating a computer and other office machinery, moving and positioning items, and meeting occupational health requirements.
Occupational hazards include potential exposure to hazardous and toxic substances, sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp items, infection from patients, and musculoskeletal injuries.
