Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic/Motor Vehicle Operator)

Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Serves as a U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) Paramedic in the Army Emergency Medical Service supporting an Army or joint base military installation. Paramedics perform both basic and advanced fife support emergency medical treatment to provide the most extensive pre-hospital care.

Duties

Help

• Responds to the site of accidents or other emergencies involving injury, illness, or potential environmental risks.
• Airway Obstructions and Respiratory Arrest: Identifies, treats, communicates, and documents airway obstructions and respiratory arrest.
• Controls external bleeding with various treatment protocols.
• Performs advanced assessment and treatment of the pediatric patient to include infant and neonatal resuscitation.
• Performs light extrication utilizing a variety of light rescue tools and equipment to safely remove patients from accident locations.
• Considers pharmacological intervention for pain control in all situations.
• Responsible for implementing procedures for hazardous materials during the course of the duties which include biological, chemical, or radiological agents used by or maintained by the military or by rogue agents against the population.
• Performs routine Operator safety checks and inventories all supplies and equipment.
• Provides regular and recurring training classes based on course lesson plans via classroom instruction for both medical and nonmedical personnel (both military and civilian) assigned to the installation.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A National Agency Check with Inquiries Background Check is required.
• This position is subject to TDY or business travel requirements to various locations. This may require travel via privately owned vehicles, commercial transport platforms, and/or military aircraft, ships, and vehicles.
• This position is required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician.
• Incumbent is required to have an unrestricted State Paramedic license for the state the installation is located or a valid National Registry Paramedic (NRP) certification at time of hire.
• Incumbent is required to have and maintain a current AHA Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) for Healthcare Providers certification or Red Cross equivalent dependent on installation requirements.
• This position requires a pre-employment physical and annually thereafter.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• Incumbent is required to have and maintain a current AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider certification or Red Cross or Red Cross equivalent dependent on installation requirements.
• Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a current AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) provider certification or Red Cross equivalent within six months of hire dependent on installation requirements.
• Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain National Incident Management System training within six months of hire.
• The position requires the employee drive a motor vehicle and maintain a valid state driver's license. Additionally, employee is required to meet the qualifications to obtain and maintain an Army issued driver's license for the position.
• The position is designated as having regular and recurring contact with children under the age of 18 and is subject to requirements of DoDI 1402.05 and AR 600-78.
• Position requires employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
• This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
• This position is designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent may be required to report to work or remain at work.
• If hired under state paramedic license must obtain National Registry Paramedic (NRP) certification within 52 weeks.
• One year probationary period is required.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience 1) evaluating medical emergencies to provide advanced life support care, 2) conducting examinations in an emergency setting and interpretating vital signs, 3) performing advanced airway care, 4) administering emergency medicine techniques such as CPR/First Aid, Basic and Advanced Life Support, AND 5) operating an emergency vehicle. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.
