Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically capable Supplier Quality Specialist to join our team. This position will have a strong hands-on focus on incoming inspection and product quality verification, while also supporting supplier quality activities and corrective-action processes.
The Supplier Quality Specialist will inspect imported magnets, components, and finished products to verify conformance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and company quality standards. The position will document inspection results, identify and report nonconforming material, and communicate quality issues to internal leadership and overseas suppliers.
This role will also support supplier corrective-action activities, including 8D, Corrective Action Requests (CAR), First Article Inspection (FAI), and PPAP documentation. The successful candidate should have strong inspection fundamentals, technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to learn and develop within the quality function.
The Supplier Quality Specialist will work closely with Operations, Engineering, Project Management, and overseas manufacturing suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
Incoming Inspection & Quality Verification
- Perform incoming inspection of imported magnets, components, and finished products.
- Inspect products against engineering drawings, specifications, purchase requirements, and customer requirements.
- Perform dimensional, visual, and functional inspections using precision measurement equipment.
- Operate and maintain inspection equipment including CMM, Keyence/image measurement systems, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, depth gauges, and other precision instruments.
- Review supplier outgoing inspection reports and compare supplier results with internal inspection findings.
- Accurately document inspection results and maintain inspection records and traceability.
- Identify, document, and communicate nonconforming material.
- Prepare rejection/nonconformance documentation and provide clear supporting information.
- Escalate significant or recurring quality issues to Operations leadership.
Supplier Quality
- Communicate quality issues and nonconformances to overseas suppliers.
- Request and track supplier corrective actions when quality issues occur.
- Assist with 8D reports, Corrective Action Requests (CAR), FAI, PPAP, and related supplier quality documentation.
- Follow up with suppliers on corrective-action commitments and outstanding quality issues.
- Maintain organized records of supplier quality issues, corrective actions, and resolutions.
Quality Systems & Documentation
- Maintain inspection plans, quality procedures, forms, and work instructions.
- Support the company’s ISO-based quality management system.
- Assist with Material Review Board (MRB) activities and nonconforming material processes.
- Maintain calibration records and coordinate calibration of inspection and measurement equipment.
- Assist with the development and implementation of product-specific inspection and testing requirements.
- Collect and report quality data, inspection results, supplier performance metrics, and defect trends.
- Support internal, customer, and supplier quality audits as needed.
Cross-Functional Support
- Work with Operations, Engineering, and Project Management to investigate and resolve product quality concerns.
- Provide clear, objective inspection findings to support quality and business decisions.
- Communicate technical quality information clearly to both internal personnel and suppliers.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to product quality and inspection processes.
Qualifications
Required
- 2+ years of experience in quality inspection, quality control, manufacturing inspection, or a related technical manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience performing dimensional or visual inspection.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and dimensional tolerances.
- Experience using precision measurement equipment such as calipers and micrometers.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document inspection results.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate quality issues clearly and professionally.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook.
Preferred
- Experience with CMMs and/or Keyence vision measurement systems.
- Experience working with overseas or domestic manufacturing suppliers.
- Familiarity with 8D, Corrective Action Requests (CAR), FAI, PPAP, control plans, FMEA, or SPC.
- Experience with nonconforming material, MRB, or supplier corrective-action processes.
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 or similar quality management system.
- Manufacturing or assembly experience.
Candidates with strong hands-on inspection experience are encouraged to apply even if they do not have experience with every quality methodology listed above.
Education
- Associate’s degree or technical training in Quality, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent hands-on manufacturing or quality inspection experience may be considered in place of formal education.
- We support continued professional development and encourage employees to pursue relevant quality certifications and training. Experience or certification through the American Society for Quality (ASQ), including CQT, CQI, or related credentials, is a plus but is not required.
