Position Details Position: Sr Plumber Steamfitter / Maintenance Mechanic- Housing Department: Facilities Maintenance NB Union: AFSCME Local 888 Grade: 18 FLSA: Nonexempt Standard Hours: 40.00 per week, Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm Overview The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations. Key Duties Duties may be based on work orders which provide little or no instruction or assistance. Responsible for estimation of work and procuring appropriate materials for himself or the group. May guide and instruct craft trainees. May perform any duties of the group. May be assigned to perform general duties in other trade areas. Must be competent in performing complex and varied plumbing and steam fitting tasks. Successful completion of an approved training program or of a certified apprenticeship program in the trade, plus two years experience and proven competency in performing complex and varied plumbing and steam fitting tasks may be substituted for the above experience. Certifications and Licenses A valid driver’s license with two years driving experience is necessary. Will be required to successfully complete the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities May be required to have welding and brazing experience. May be required to obtain Commercial Driver’s License. Good communication skills, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and the ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and blueprints.
