Material Handler

Job Overview

The Material Handler is responsible for moving recyclable materials throughout the facility, conducting material grading and audits, and evaluating materials for the appropriate sale destination. This role operates material-handling equipment and supports safe, efficient material movement within a temperature-controlled pharmaceutical facility.

Shift Details

• Schedule: Rotating Pitman schedule
• • Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday
  • Week 2: Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday
• Shift Hours: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM  or 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Interview: Required; in-person interview

Onboarding Requirements

The following requirements must be completed before the applicant can start:

• Pre-Employment Physical Abilities Test: Scheduled by the vendor
• Eli Lilly Screening: Set up by WM; includes drug screening and background screening

PPE Requirements

Candidates are required to wear:

• Long-sleeve shirt
• Long pants

WM will provide:

• Steel-toed boots
• Safety glasses
• High-visibility vest

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Move materials throughout the facility using material-handling equipment such as pallet jacks and handcarts.
• Load materials into vehicles and install strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
• Load compactors and trailers.
• Operate the baler.
• Decontaminate containers before they are placed into production.
• Use PC tablets to dispense and receive information, including part numbers, quantities, locations, and comments.
• Transport materials from storage or work areas to designated locations.
• Attach identifying tags or labels to materials, cases, bales, and other containers.
• Properly document work performed.
• Conduct material audits.
• Perform other duties as assigned while following all facility safety and operational procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• None required.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Ability to safely perform physical duties associated with material handling.
• Ability to work around power equipment and elevated noise levels.

Education

• High school diploma or GED required.

Experience

• 0–4 years of previous work experience preferred.
• Previous material-handling or warehouse experience is a plus but not required.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Work is performed in a waste/material-handling building located at a pharmaceutical facility.
• The work environment is temperature controlled.
• Exposure to power equipment and noise is expected for most of the workday.
• Requires motor coordination and dexterity involving the arms, hands, fingers, and legs.
• Frequently required to handle objects weighing less than 50 pounds.
• Requires frequent pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, and lifting.
• Must be able to safely perform physical activities associated with loading, unloading, moving, and handling materials.
