About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: OB Duration: 8 weeks Shift: 7A-7P Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years in Labor and Delivery License: Active Nursing License Certifications: BLS ACLS NRP Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring STABLE must be completed within 30 days of start Must-Have: Experience with all phases of Labor and Postpartum care Experience with care of well babies Description: ASAP start needed. Interviews will be conducted shortly. Facility has a Level III Nursery with 200 births per year. There are 4 Labor beds and 4 Postpartum beds. Low-risk patient population; all high-risk patients are transferred out. Patients will stay on this unit for Antepartum, Intrapartum, and Postpartum/Couplet care. Traveler must be comfortable with all phases as well as care of well babies. Experience with post-partum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia, HELLP, bilirubin babies, NAS babies, and feeders/growers is required. Will also care for Medical Surgical patients and low acuity patients receiving IV antibiotics, swing bed, or rehab. No infectious patients or telemetry monitoring involved. Average patient ratios with Med/Surg patients will be 1:2-3. Facility has a low volume of deliveries, averaging 200 per year. Rooming in model is practiced; no dedicated Nursery. Registered Nurses will care for babies directly. Patient ratios based on guidelines are as follows: 1:2 for laboring, 1:1 for active labor, 1:3-4 for couplets, and 1:2-3 for Med Surg. Support on the unit consists of at least 2 nurses overnight and 3 nurses at times. No CNAs are available; HUC available 4 days per week. Midwife will handle most of the care with OB available if needed. Charge nurse and phlebotomy services are available. RT and hospitalist services are available 24/7. Charting system used is an electronic medical record. Floating may occur to Medical Surgical or Emergency Department for task assistance only, without patient assignments. Weekend rotation required every other week. No call responsibilities and holiday expectations every other. Approval for time off requires manager consent. Professional scrub color is required; procedural scrubs will be provided for OR.
