Safety Manager

UMX is seeking a Safety Manager who views safety not as a compliance checkbox, but as the operational foundation that makes everything else possible.

You will be responsible for building, maintaining, and continuously improving our safety management systems across marine construction and commercial dive operations — including work performed at federal installations.

This role requires someone who can review a project plan and immediately identify the hazards that haven't been addressed yet. You will partner with field supervisors, project managers, and executive leadership to embed a culture of proactive risk management throughout the organization.

This is not a clipboard-only safety role.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures across all UMX operations
• Conduct project-specific hazard analyses, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) for complex marine and diving scopes
• Lead pre-task safety planning and toolbox talks while verifying field implementation
• Perform regular site audits and inspections; document findings and drive corrective actions to closure
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; conduct root cause analysis and implement systemic corrective measures
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, USCG, Navy, EM385-1-1, and other applicable regulatory requirements
• Maintain OSHA logs, incident reports, and required safety records
• Develop and deliver safety training programs tailored to marine construction and commercial diving operations
• Track leading and lagging safety indicators; report performance to leadership and clients
• Collaborate with Project Managers during preconstruction planning to identify and mitigate operational hazards before mobilization
• Support business development efforts through safety reviews, client submittals, and pre-bid planning

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of safety management experience in construction, industrial, marine, or related environments
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required
• OSHA 500 Trainer certification preferred
• Strong working knowledge of EM385-1-1
• Experience with commercial diving safety regulations (29 CFR 1910.410 or equivalent) highly advantageous
• Demonstrated ability to influence field behavior and strengthen safety culture through leadership and credibility
• Strong written communication and documentation skills
• Experience supporting federal or government construction contracts preferred
• CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHST certification preferred

Compensation

$90,000 – $110,000 DOE
