BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems (SMS) is seeking a seeking a strategic and technically astute Electronics Commodity Buyer to manage complex procurement activities, driving strategic supplier partnerships to secure high-quality electronic components at competitive costs. In this high-level role, you will leverage your deep expertise in electronic components (active/passive components, semiconductors, and integrated circuits, etc.) to secure strategic partnerships, optimize costs, and mitigate risks in a highly dynamic market.

The ideal candidate blends technical knowledge of electronic components with expert-level negotiation, ERP proficiency, and proactive supply chain management to support production requirements and new product introductions. This role will lead initiatives supporting SMS programs in Direct procurements.
In addition, this role may be required to conduct pre-legal reviews of contractual language and make recommendations to ensure BAE Systems SMS terms and conditions are met and liability is limited.

The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution - from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.

What You'll Do:

• Develop and execute sourcing strategies for complex electronics and electromechanical commodities.
• Partner with Program personnel and Engineering teams to optimize BOM targets, select viable alternatives, and ensure early supplier involvement.
• Lead high-level negotiations with suppliers, securing favorable pricing, lead times, inventory consignment, and volume discount agreements.
• Lead critical delivery meetings with suppliers to maintain and track schedule/milestones.
• Organize technical data, statement of requirements, delivery schedule, milestone payments, terms and conditions, offset requirements and other contractual elements into cohesive proposal requests.
• Review pricing proposals for accuracy and consistency, develop individual supplier strategies and make recommendations to the internal customer based on analysis.
• May develop contractual language to ensure compliance with BAE Systems SMS legal terms and conditions. Negotiate low risk business terms and conditions, as required.
• Proactively manage material risks such as PCN (Product Change Notification) and EOL (End of Life).
• Track market trends on electronics and provide guidance to our program teams on potential supply chain disruptions that could impact price or delivery
• Use ERP/MRP systems to forecast demand, set safety stock levels with supply base, and coordinate production schedules to prevent stockouts or excess inventory.
• Evaluate and monitor vendor performance through scorecards (On-Time Delivery, Quality, responsiveness) and drive root-cause corrective actions when necessary.
• Document procurement files in accordance with compliance policies and appropriately demonstrate that consideration has been given to all factors essential to effective and economical procurement.
• Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
• Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

• Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

• Bachelor's degree plus 6 or more years related experience.
• Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
• Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, Microsoft Office experience to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Self-starter and excellent leadership skills.
• Work effectively under pressure.
• Exhibit high level of motivation, attention to detail, energetic approach and positive attitude to job duties and requirements.
• Technically knowledgeable and capable of grasping detailed concepts.

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.


Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

• Experience with complex electronic components manufacturers and distributors preferred.
• Experience with IFS, Ivalua, or Costpoint.
• Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM).

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $101398 - $172377

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
