Bus Rider

Bus riders play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, discipline, and well-being of students during their bus rides to and from school. The bus rider will accompany students on their assigned bus route, provide supervision, enforce safety protocols, and maintain a positive environment on the bus. This role requires active engagement with students, effective communication with drivers, and adherence to the district's policies regarding student conduct and safety.

Ride the bus daily (morning and afternoon) to supervise students during their bus route.

• Monitor student behavior, ensuring students remain seated, are respectful, and follow safety protocols.
• Enforce rules and regulations to maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly environment on the bus.
• Provide assistance to students with disabilities or special needs as required, ensuring their safety during the ride.
• Ensure all students board and exit the bus safely and in an orderly manner.
• Assist in emergency evacuation drills and other safety procedures as needed.
• Respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations, following district guidelines.
• Communicate effectively with the bus driver regarding any safety concerns, incidents, or student behavioral issues.
• Report any incidents of bullying, unsafe behavior, or violations of district policies to the appropriate school authorities or transportation director.
• Assist students with resolving conflicts and maintain a positive and welcoming environment.
• Foster positive relationships with students to encourage good behavior and cooperation.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Ensure passenger safety.

Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm and effective in stressful or emergency situations. Ability to work with children of various ages and manage student behavior.

Ability to work a flexible schedule based on bus routes and school hours.

Knowledge of child safety protocols, school bus regulations, and emergency procedures preferred but not required.

Must be 18 or older and can pass the district's background check.

Ability to sit for extended periods of time and assist students in and out of the bus. Ability to lift or assist students with mobility challenges if necessary. Ability to walk, stand, or move in and out of the bus during loading and unloading.
