Position Summary The Work Comp Specialist works with patients, clinical teams, work comp companies, and the call center to coordinate care at OrthoNebraska. They act as the main liaison between patients and OrthoNebraska. Position Details Status: Full-Time Shift: Days FTE / Hours: 1.0 / 40 Schedule: Mon - Fri: 8:00am - 5:00pm Position Requirements Education: High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required. Licensure: N/A Certification: N/A Experience: 1+ year of Worker's compensation experience preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Operating knowledge of and experience with computers, copiers, fax machines, and e-mail. This position requires a great deal of time management. Must be able to demonstrate calm and rational thinking and be able to communicate and provide detailed explanations in a clear and concise manner among the Workers' Compensation team, clinical staff, and managers. Must be able to multi-task with multiple interruptions in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrate behaviors that support excellence in customer service and professionalism. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of workers compensation. Essential Job Functions Responsible for obtaining referral or authorization for treatment of Workers' Compensation patients. Responsible for obtaining correct workers compensation company, claim number, billing address, and adjuster and nurse case manager contact information. Responsible for obtaining all prior records and X-ray discs of patients before first appointment, when applicable. Responsible for obtaining proper information and records for MVA or Third-Party liabilities. Coordinates with clinical staff. Ensure interpretive services are set up for patients, if needed. Assists adjusters, case managers, and employers with requests for information in a timely manner. Maintains patient confidentiality by understanding HIPAA regulations. Completes items identified in work queues in a timely manner. Participates in performance improvement activities. Attends and participates in department meetings. Follows established guidelines as stated in the policies and procedures of Patient Financial Services at OrthoNebraska. Informs Assistant Manager/Manager of patient complaints and/or issues in a timely manner. Demonstrates Always TRUE and the OrthoNebraska Way. Other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements This position is classified as Sedentary Work in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (up to 33% of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (33%‑66% of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Pre‑Employment Requirements Must be able to pass a background check, complete a pre‑employment physical and drug testing.
