Lead Low Voltage Technician — Job Description (APT – Advanced Prop Tech)

About the Role

At APT – Advanced Prop Tech, we connect technologies to solve real business problems for property owners and managers. We're growing fast, and we need a Lead Low Voltage Technician who can start right away.

This isn't just a technician role – it's a leadership role for someone who's still willing to be on the ladder. You'll run jobs, train the people around you, and represent APT in front of customers and vendors, while also doing the hands-on cabling, access control, and smart-device work yourself. We're looking for someone who works hard, thinks like a business owner, and takes pride in getting it done right the first time.

What You'll Do

• Lead and do: Act as the lead on job sites – planning the work, keeping the crew on schedule, and stepping in to do the work yourself alongside your team.
• Train others: Train property management staff and junior techs on how to use and troubleshoot the systems you install.
• Plan and pull cable: Assess room layouts and structural conditions to plan efficient cable pull paths; pull, route, and terminate low-voltage and fiber cable through conduit, ceilings, and between floors.
• Structured cabling: Pre-wire Cat6/Cat6A during rough-in, trim out on schedule, and test and certify in the final phase. Crimp and terminate audio/video cable.
• Access control: Install access control cabling, keypads, and connect magnetic locks and electric strikes. Comfortable working with ButterflyMX, Brivo, Schlage, Eagle Eye, Digital Watchdog, and Ubiquiti.
• Smart devices: Install and commission smart door locks and thermostats, and walk property management through how to use them.
• AV support: Assist with the installation of displays, screens, projectors, and other communications hardware.
• Report back: Send daily and weekly updates on progress, issues, and next steps, flagged green, yellow, or red so problems get caught early.
• Own the outcome: Run your projects like they're your own business – on time, on budget, done safely, and done with genuine customer service.

What We're Looking For

• Prior experience in low-voltage, telecom, or a closely related trade.
• A natural team lead who's also a doer – comfortable directing a job and comfortable doing the work personally.
• Strong people skills: professional and clear with customers, property managers, vendors, and teammates.
• An entrepreneurial mindset – can work independently, make good calls on-site, and still keep the team and office in the loop.
• Patience and clarity for training others – can explain a system simply to someone who's never seen it before.
• Own truck and hand tools strongly preferred – this role is field-based and mobile from day one.
• Solid troubleshooting and analytical skills, and a track record of getting projects done right.
• Professional appearance and a genuine commitment to quality customer service.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This is hands-on field work. Most days are on job sites rather than behind a desk, and conditions vary from site to site.

• Comfortable in non-climate-controlled spaces, and around dust, noise, and construction conditions.
• Able to lift and move up to 50 lbs, and to stand, walk, and reach for up to 8 hours a day.
• Able to climb ladders (8 ft, routinely) and work in attics, crawl spaces, and basements – climbing, balancing, kneeling, and crouching as needed.
• Good hand-eye coordination for tools, equipment, and fine terminations.
