Midwest PMS is seeking a motivated, self-directed Industrial Automation & Controls Technician to support manufacturing operations across multiple facilities. In this role, you will troubleshoot equipment and process issues, support plant projects and equipment installations, coordinate with contractors and vendors, assist with automation and electrical systems, and serve as a technical resource for operations and maintenance teams. The ideal candidate is a practical problem solver who takes initiative, investigates issues independently, recommends effective solutions, coordinates corrective actions, and drives projects through completion with minimal supervision.

Within the first one to two years, the successful candidate will develop a strong understanding of the company’s operating systems and processes, build productive relationships with operations, maintenance, contractors, and vendors, and become a trusted technical resource across multiple facilities. With appropriate support, they will manage troubleshooting efforts from initial investigation through resolution, contribute to the successful execution of plant projects and equipment installations, and respond effectively to on-call issues while escalating concerns when appropriate.

This position requires regular travel between facilities and participation in a rotating on-call schedule.

Location: Englewood, CO

Salary Range: $80,000–$120,000 annually

Travel: Approximately 30–50%, based on business needs

Schedule: Full-time; includes rotating on-call support

Responsibilities:

Plant Support & Troubleshooting

• Investigate and troubleshoot equipment, process, electrical, controls, and instrumentation issues.
• Identify root causes of recurring failures and develop practical corrective action plans with the operations team.
• Support plant personnel in resolving production, quality, and reliability concerns.
• Evaluate technical issues and provide recommendations for repair, replacement, or improvement.
• Respond to urgent operational issues and provide both remote and on-site support when required.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Provide after-hours and on-call support on a rotating basis as needed.

Project Support & Execution

• Support capital projects, equipment installations, system upgrades, and plant improvement initiatives.
• Coordinate with contractors, vendors, electricians, maintenance personnel, and operations teams.
• Monitor field activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to requirements.
• Identify project risks, roadblocks, and technical concerns and communicate them appropriately.
• Assist with equipment commissioning, startup, testing, and validation activities.

Automation & Technical Support

• Support PLC-controlled equipment, HMIs, instrumentation, VFDs, industrial networks, and related control systems.
• Assist with troubleshooting automation and controls-related issues.
• Work with internal and external technical resources to resolve complex system problems.
• Maintain documentation related to troubleshooting activities, projects, equipment modifications, and corrective actions.

Communication & Coordination

• Serve as a technical liaison between operations, maintenance, vendors, and contractors.
• Develop clear written recommendations and action plans.
• Communicate findings, progress updates, and technical concerns clearly.
• Escalate significant technical, operational, safety, or business-impact issues when appropriate.

Required Qualifications

• Associate's degree, technical degree or training, or equivalent experience.
• Proven strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to independently investigate issues and develop practical solutions.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage conflicting priorities across multiple facilities.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel 30-50% of the time.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call support rotation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting manufacturing or industrial facilities.
• Working knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment, HMIs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), industrial sensors and instrumentation, low-voltage electrical distribution and control systems, and basic networking.
• Experience supporting equipment installation, startup, and commissioning activities.
• Familiarity with root cause analysis.
• Experience reading electrical drawings, schematics, P&IDs, and equipment documentation.
