College Work Study - Student Experience Ambassador

College work study programs enable students to gain experience in their prospective fields while earning wages to support educational costs. This role supports efforts to elevate student voice by conducting one‑on‑one and small‑group interviews on pre‑determined topics related to the student experience. Reporting to an assigned supervisor, the student experience ambassador gathers and documents feedback, organizes interview notes, maintains confidentiality, and participates in training and peer learning sessions. Additional responsibilities include general office support, customer service, and assistance with special projects and administrative tasks. Primary Objective The FWS program encourages students to gain experience in their prospective fields by placing them in areas and departments aligned with their area of study whenever possible. Students can use wages towards educational and living expenses. Essential Duties Conduct one‑on‑one or small‑group empathy interviews on pre‑determined topics. Take clear, accurate, and objective notes during interviews. Transcribe, organize, and submit interview notes in a timely manner using provided templates. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all student interactions. Attend required trainings on empathy interviewing, confidentiality, and documentation. Provide feedback on interview tools and participate in peer learning sessions. Collaborate with supervisors and fellow ambassadors to identify themes and insights. Support implementation of student surveys. Perform basic Word and Excel operations. Provide support on various projects and assignments as needed. Offer general office support including filing, photocopying, and data entry. Provide general customer service. Adhere to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Services Excellence Standards. Reporting Relationships Reports to: Assigned Supervisor Direct supervision: None Eligibility Requirements Applicants must be 16 years or older, have work permit consent, and be eligible to work in the United States. Applicants must be actively attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago. Applicants must be enrolled in at least 6 semester hours of pre‑credit or credit classes. Applicants must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (waived for first‑semester new students). Applicants must be in “good standing” with no academic restrictions. Applicants must not be current full or part‑time employees of City Colleges of Chicago. Freshmen may work during the break before attending the next school term. All positions are at‑will employment. Maximum of 20 hours per week. Qualifications High school diploma required or actively pursuing a GED at City Colleges of Chicago. Previous relevant work experience desirable but not required. Interest in student experience, equity, and campus improvement initiatives. Good verbal and written communication skills. Excellent listening and note‑taking skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust and rapport with peers. Ability to work effectively and respectfully in a culturally diverse environment, fostering inclusivity and collaboration. Ability to conduct interviews professionally, adhering to research guidelines. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Ability to analyze and solve problems. Must be able to work flexible hours as needed. Responsible, reliable, and able to manage confidential information with care. Professional, courteous, and strong customer service skills in all interactions. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Training Provided Mandatory training covering empathy interviewing, data collection practices, confidentiality, and student engagement best practices. Compensation Salary: $17.00 per hour.
