Laboratory Phlebotomist

A Brief Overview:

Performs specimen procurement and/or processing of laboratory specimens. Provides laboratory support functions.

What You Will Do:

  • Organizes and performs tasks efficiently to meet departmental turnaround time standards.
  • Performs computer data entry, laboratory processes including sterile technique, aliquoting and/or phlebotomy
  • Processes specimens for laboratory testing
  • Competent in the collection or processing of specialized samples
  • Performs with minimal error rate
  • Acts as a trainer and is a resource to other Specimen Processor Phlebotomists
  • Needs minimal supervision and problems solves with little or no supervision
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all policies and standards
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients

Qualifications:

Education: High School Equivalent / GED (Required) and Other Accredited Program: Formal Training from an accredited phlebotomy school or medical assistant program (preferred)

Work Experience: 1+ years phlebotomy experience preferred

  • Working knowledge of pre-analytic laboratory and safety policies and procedures
  • Displays initiative to perform job duties
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work effectively within role independently and with other team members
  • Competent on venipuncture, heel stick, and fingerstick for all ages

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)
  • Phlebotomy Certification (preferred)
