Rotates through diagnostic radiology as assigned. Involved in the practice of radiation and general safety at all times. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
2. Radiography certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) within 6 months of hire.
3. Must possess current or temporary Radiography license as required by state board where services will be provided
MD: Radiographer license through the Maryland Board of Physicians
OH: Radiographer license through the Ohio Board of Radiology
PA: No state license is required
WV : Radiography License, Temporary Radiography License OR Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic CT License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board.
4. Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
5. State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE: 1. One (1) year of experience as a computed tomography technologist. CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Prepares room, equipment, materials, as needed for patient exams, including sterile technique. Cleans and disinfects rooms and equipment following each patient exam, using current infection control policies.
2. Performs examinations per Physician's orders and explains procedures to the patients. Documents any variations from protocol due to patient's condition or other unknown cause and relays patient history and clinical data to Radiologist.
3. Observes patient and equipment and reports any unusual occurrences or changes. Transports and assists patients as needed.
4. Documents status of patient in reference to radiology/CT procedure on patient's chart.
5. Documents variances repeats and other such occurrences to help maintain high quality health care and opportunity for quality improvement.
6. Maintains stock supplies, performs general office duties, responsible for proper film labeling and following prescribed techniques to assure acceptable quality and consistency.
7. Practices safe radiation exposure and protection as well as general safety for patient's, visitors, and staff at all times.
8. Complies with policy and procedures for the departmental and hospital wide programs. Participates in the patient safety training and patient protection, including the needs and methods to report medical/ healthcare errors and abuse.
9. Produces diagnostic quality images utilizing CT equipment and effectively judges CT images for proper technique to best demonstrate anatomy and pathology. Performs critical procedures under stress during emergency procedures.
10. If applicable, performs diagnostic studies using mobile radiographic equipment in emergency or patient rooms as ordered by physician. Performs diagnostic studies in surgical suite with C-Arm and other equipment.
11. Provides care specific to the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
12. May perform IV insertion/blood draws.
13. Administer IV/Oral/Rectal contrast for CT imaging procedures per radiologist protocol/department manual and ordering physician/care provider order.
14. Utilize PACS to ensure exams are completed and available for the radiologist to read and for the referring physician/care provider review.
15. Performs all related duties as assigned by department manager or other duties assigned by lead technologist. For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements: 1. Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling are necessary body movements utilized in performing duties throughout the work shift.
2. Must be able to lift, move, and position patients of all weights, with varying amounts of assistance in a fair manner on a regular and recurring basis; exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
3. Hearing and visual acuity must be within normal range. The Computed Tomography Clinical Ladder is a system-wide clinical advancement program to enhance professional development, provide a reward system for quality clinical performance, promote quality imaging care, and improve job satisfaction for computed tomography technologists. To apply for the next level, the computed tomography technologist must meet the requirements of their current level. They must also meet the required years of experience, degree, and certification to apply for the next level. Level 1
