Job Details Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Hiring Range: $15.00 - $25.71 (final offer may vary based on experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations) Schedule Details: Holidays – Every Other Holiday (Sunday through Saturday), Weekends – Every Other Weekend Scheduled Hours: 12:45-9:15P Shift: 2 – Evening Shift, 8 Hours (United States of America) Hours: 24 Cost Center: 21000 – 2340 Emergency Room Union: SHARE Marlborough Signing bonus may be available; recruitment team will confirm eligibility during interview process. Major Responsibilities Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients (e.g., changes in skin condition, vital signs, mental status). Provides constant observation of high‑risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse or designee. Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe environment, using interventions to de‑escalate patients and, if unsuccessful, participates in restraints in accordance with training and education as directed. Assists patients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulation, meals and nourishment. Assists in moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients using proper safety techniques and body mechanics. Maintains patient safety by performing safety checks, utilizing fall‑prevention devices/strategies as directed, and following the Restraint Policy for restrained patients. Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry) and measures patients’ height and weight. Performs EKGs, point‑of‑care tests, and bladder scans according to hospital standards; collects, labels, and prepares specimens for transport to the lab. Phlebotomy in certain locations. Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to patients’ needs by acting as a source of information and building positive rapport. Performs unit‑specific procedures such as battery changes for telemetry units, checking equipment status, cleaning equipment between patients, and proper storage of supplies. Assists RN or licensed independent practitioner with treatments and procedures by preparing patients, setting up equipment and supplies, and using sterile technique when indicated; helps with patient positioning and emotional support, and cleans up after the procedure. Observes, measures, and records oral food and fluid intake; sets up tube‑feeding solutions and refills bags as directed; empties and records output from Foley catheters, ostomy appliances, and drainage systems; performs ostomy care on established patients as directed. Answers telephone using appropriate etiquette, takes and relays messages, and utilizes intra‑department communication systems such as pagers and intercom. Replenishes patient and unit supplies and equipment. Keeps current with hospital and unit changes by reading communication boards, bulletin boards, posted notices, and UMMHC e‑mails regularly. All responsibilities are essential job functions. Specialties Unit Secretary – Assists with patient admissions, transfers, and discharge procedures at least 5 shifts (40 hours) every 6 months; administrative responsibilities include log maintenance, organizing patient care charts, and retrieving data from EMR systems. Remote Video Monitoring – Continuously observes multiple patients using the remote video monitoring system; performs in the Emergency Department, Step Down Unit, ICU, Dialysis, and Hospital at Home. Telemetry Certified & Step‑Down Unit (Harrington) – Cross‑trained in phlebotomy and telemetry competencies; also functions as unit clerk; may be assigned to areas of higher acuity such as the Step‑Down Unit. Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives. Attends a variety of meetings, conferences, and seminars as required or directed. Demonstrates use of quality improvement in daily operations. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements. Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed. Position Qualifications License/Certification/Education (Required): Minimum of a high school education or GED. Current Basic Life Support. Experience/Skills (Required): Demonstrated competency attainment in the PCT II level. Prior inpatient/outpatient care experience or clinical care training. Ability to read, write and communicate in English clearly and concisely. Knowledge of medical terminology. Computer skills. Strong interpersonal skills to gather information, build relationships, and provide exceptional service to patients. Proven problem‑solving abilities for routine situations; seeks assistance when more direction is needed. Ability to remain calm when under stress or in emergency situations. Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the above requirements. Department‑specific competencies and measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments and attached to the job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with incumbents. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions Position requires work indoors in a patient care environment. Hand dexterity, hearing, and vision are necessary to take direction from patients or providers, adjust equipment, observe and describe patient observations. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Work is of heavy demand, standing and walking most of the time with the possibility of pushing heavy equipment and bending frequently.
