Verify patient identity, exam appropriateness, and obtain necessary clinical history. Position patients and equipment, manipulate transducers and technical factors to acquire optimal images and diagnostic data. Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the EMR and PACS systems. Explain procedures to patients, ensuring comfort, cooperation, and privacy. Educate patients about the exam and complete all exams in a timely manner, maintaining workflow and minimizing idle time. Operate all imaging equipment safely, including scanners, injectors, and monitors. Practice infection control standards using approved PPE and disinfectants. Follow department protocols for patient identification, informed consent, and time‑out procedures. Collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare providers to ensure appropriate imaging and continuity of care. Ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for use; conduct routine cleaning and safety checks of equipment. Notify appropriate personnel when inventory is low. Acquisition and analysis of ultrasound images, providing complete and high‑quality studies for radiologist interpretation. Complete the ultrasound technologist worksheet with accurate, clear, and concise documentation of exam findings. Sterilize transducers as needed to maintain hygiene and safety standards. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Detailed knowledge of ultrasound physics, cross‑sectional and vascular anatomy, and Doppler techniques; required for independent procedures to radiologist standards. Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office; required for data entry and retrieval. Patient care and communication skills across all age groups, handling sensitive issues calmly and professionally. Effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and staff; ability to discuss procedures and address questions. Conversational English speaking, reading, and writing. Ability to learn and use radiology software packages and PACS applications, adapting quickly to departmental policies and procedures. Commitment to continuing education and annual training requirements; keep all required registries and licenses current. Independent performance of various ultrasound procedures without constant supervision, demonstrating appropriate technical skills. Recognition of subtle differences between healthy and pathological areas; knowledge of anatomy, physiology, patient care, and medical ethics. Effective teamwork, flexibility, reliability, sound judgment, and initiative; familiarity with age‑specific criteria and competency in all applicable areas. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; communicate effectively with diverse backgrounds and ages. Experience with specialized sonographic procedures such as breast, prostate, or ocular ultrasound imaging, as well as pediatric, neuro, and vascular sonography (preferred). Additional languages (preferred). Education High School Graduate or equivalent (required). Associate degree (preferred). Technical/Vocational School (preferred). Field of Study Technical or Vocational program eligible to sit for ARDMS or ARRT boards. Work Experience 1+ year of work experience (preferred). Additional Information N/A.
