Percentage of time 50 Laboratory Maintenance and Organization: Support routine laboratory operations by organizing workspaces, preparing and restocking supplies, and ensuring laboratory areas are maintained in an orderly and functional condition. Percentage of time 5 Position Details Position Information Classification Title Student Assistant FLSA Non-Exempt UGA Job Code FTE .20 Minimum Qualifications Position Summary The Undergraduate Research Assistant will support an NSF -funded project focused on microbial life and biogeochemical processes in sub-seafloor environments. The student will assist the research team with laboratory activities related to environmental microbiology, DNA extraction, metagenomics, metabolomics, and microbial ecology. This position will provide hands-on experience in molecular biology, environmental sample processing, multi-omics methods, scientific data analysis, and the study of microbial processes in the deep biosphere. Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position Previous laboratory experience in biology, microbiology, chemistry, or a related field is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies Basic familiarity with laboratory procedures, sample handling, and laboratory safety practices. Ability to carefully follow written protocols and maintain accurate laboratory records. An interest in microbiology, molecular biology, environmental science, marine science, or related research is preferred. Physical Demands Is this a Position of Trust?
