POLICE OFFICER

Summary You will serve as a POLICE OFFICER in the OPERATRIONS DEPARTMENT of NAVBASE VENTURA COUNTY SEC. Responsibilities You will respond to and investigate complaints while enforcing state and federal laws and regulations. You will conduct preliminary investigations in response to calls for assistance (e.g., alarms, complaints, irregularities, incidents, unusual or suspicious circumstances). You will coordinate emergency response for calls concerning complaints or reports of violations. You will perform law enforcement duties at fixed post entrance and exit gates to control vehicle and pedestrian traffic. For the GS-4: Your resume must demonstrate at least six months of general experience that includes experience in administrative, clerical, technical, or military work that involved protecting property, equipment, data, or materials; or that involved making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws; AND six months of specialized experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. For the GS-3: Your resume must demonstrate at least six months of general experience that includes experience in administrative, clerical, technical, or military work that involved protecting property, equipment, data, or materials; or that involved making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You must graduate from a police academy, specifically the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Uniformed Police Training Program (UPTP). If you have not graduated from this specific academy prior to this application, the employer will assign the dates and location for you to attend. Upon completion of FLETC, you must sign an agreement to obligate three years of service as a Police Officer (series 0083) with Department of the Navy. Maintains proficiency for response to: installation perimeter breeches, hostage situations, vehicle borne improvised explosive device (IED), waterborne (IED) and pedestrian borne improvised explosive attacks, active shooter incidents, bomb threats, counter unmanned systems, suspicious packages and other terrorist threats, natural disasters, civil disturbances, and a myriad of law enforcement responses. Education For the GS-4: In lieu of specialized experience, the education listed below can be utilized to meet minimum qualifications at the GS-04 grade level: Two years of successfully completed study at an accredited school above the high school level with at least 12 semester hours in police administration, police law and evidence, police investigation, criminology, law enforcement, general law, or similar subjects closely related to police work. OR Have a combination of experience and education as described above which, when combined, is equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirement. For the GS-03: Successful completion of one year of study at an accredited school above the high school level with at least 6 semester hours of study pertinent to police work. OR A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
