FIREFIGHTER (HAZMAT TECH/BASIC LIFE SUPPORT)

Summary The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Firefighter (Hazardous Materials Technician/Basic Life Support) assigned to a crew engaged in airfield and structural firefighting and crash-rescue operations. Drives and operates firefighting vehicles of significant complexity to respond to the presence or potential releases of hazardous materials (HAZMAT), for the purpose of stopping or controlling the release, and to conduct performance of noninvasive emergency medical procedures. - Performs hazard and risk assessment and conducts a complete incident analysis.
- Performs Basic Life Support.
- Drives and operates firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicles.
- Performs crash-rescue and firefighting duties involving air traffic or support operations where hazardous conditions are such that the expectancy for fire is high and potential for becoming destructive is great.
- Performs structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities, which may include large multistoried buildings, industrial areas, and/or base storage facilities.
- Maintains firefighting equipment and fire station facilities.
- Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.

- Employee must participate in a mandatory physical fitness program.
- Employee is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.
- The employee is required to work a 72-hour week on an alternating schedule which includes weekends and holidays. May be subject to recall.
- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. (Cont'd)

- This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
- The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required.
- Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
- May be required to work the Fire Alarm and Communications Center (FACC).
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
- A pre-employment physical is required.
- This position is designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/ contingency operations. Incumbents of key positions must be removed (Cont'd)
