Licensed Practical Nurse / Health Aide

JOB GOAL

To assist in providing services to schools that work toward the good health and wellness of students and the improvement of health conditions in general.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Possess a current license from Alabama Board of Nursing designating Licensed Practical Nurse.
2. Current CPR card.
3. Minimum of two (2) years experience in hospital or community health setting.
4. Valid driver's license and the ability to have access to appropriate transportation to meet job requirements.
5. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

1. Knowledge of Board policies and procedures.
2. Effective written and oral communication skills.
3. Knowledge of current general medical and pediatric nursing practices.
4. Skilled in the use of testing and measurements for assessing vision, and other appropriate health screening activities and programs. (ie: Immunization Audits)
5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and school faculties.
6. Ability to use and implement computer technology programs including Microsoft Office and e-mail.
7. Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Providing nursing care for students requiring special health procedures.
2. Referring parents, students, teachers, health agencies, and individuals for health counseling to the assigned RN.
3. Maintaining proper and accurate documentation.
4. Contacting principal and Health Services regarding crisis situations in the school. This includes child abuse, threatened suicide and accidents.
5. Assisting students with medications according to approved procedures.
6. Administering first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
7. Adheres to rules and regulations.
8. Assists the RN in screening programs and school programs. (Spinal Screening, Vision Screening and Immunization Audit).
9. Takes leave time in accordance with Board policy and reports all absences to SubFinder in a timely manner.
10. Performs other related and equitable duties as may be assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy Manual, Students First Act and the Board's Salary Schedule Licensed Practical Nurse.

EVALUATION

Performance evaluation shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel - GCRK and GCRK-R.
