The Training & Legal Fund seeks a full-time Coordinator/Green Janitor Specialist to support the Fund’s roll-out in Cleveland and coordinate the Green Janitor Education Program (GJEP) in Chicago and surrounding suburbs. The role is based in Chicago and requires regular travel to Cleveland, typically once per month. This position requires a self-motivated, highly organized professional who can manage multiple priorities, build strong relationships, and provide accessible, high-quality service to adult workers, instructors, and employers.

The Training & Legal Fund is a new benefit for eligible SEIU Local 1 union members. It aims to enhance professional and personal growth by providing training and legal services free to members. The Fund initiated operations in mid-2025 in Chicago and started to build services in Cleveland in mid-2026. The Fund is still in start-up phase and requires a resourceful team player.

The Green Janitor Education Program (GJEP) is a labor-management initiative that advances union-driven decarbonization in large commercial buildings by equipping building service workers with practical green cleaning and sustainability skills. The program supports the environmental and health priorities of property owners, employers, workers, and tenants while promoting consistent green cleaning practices. This role will support program logistics, schedules, resources, timelines, and follow-up; coordinate stakeholders; and monitor participation and satisfaction. The Fund is the leading Green Janitor Education Program in the nation and operates in Chicago and Cleveland.

Location and schedule: This is a Chicago-based hybrid position with regular local travel throughout Chicago and surrounding suburbs and approximately monthly travel to Cleveland. Some evening and weekend work is required to support classes, worksite visits, meetings, and events. A valid driver’s license, reliable car, and ability to travel are required. For Green Janitor responsibilities, this role reports to the Training Services Manager and for Cleveland responsibilities, this role reports to the Training & Legal Fund Director.

Responsibilities:

·          Program coordination: Coordinate GJEP classes, instructor trainings, graduations, and new training opportunities across Chicago and surrounding suburbs, including schedules, locations, materials, equipment, vendors, attendance, timelines, and inventory.

·          Instructor and participant support: Serve as the primary contact for instructors and assist members and students with eligibility, enrollment, schedules, attendance, grades, certificates, service inquiries, and referrals to training or legal resources.

·          Program quality: Support instructors in delivering accessible, engaging training; organize professional development and feedback sessions; and address scheduling, staffing, curriculum, or operational issues.

·          Outreach and partnerships: Promote GJEP and Fund services through worksite visits, member meetings, presentations, technology, and written materials, while maintaining relationships with employers, property managers, contractors, trustees, vendors, and community partners.

·          Chicago and Cleveland support: Maintain Chicago-based operations and travel to Cleveland approximately once a month to engage members and provide logistical support for training and legal services; provide timely and professional follow-up to ensure consistent service across both markets.

·          Administration and reporting: Maintain accurate program, participant, contact, and case-management records; organize files and tracking systems; prepare materials and reports; and monitor goals, deliverables, timelines, outcomes, and stakeholder requests.

·          Legal and team support: Direct participants to appropriate resources and provide administrative support to Fund staff.

·          Compliance and confidentiality: Follow Fund policies and safeguard sensitive information.

Because the Fund and its programs continue to grow, the Director may assign additional duties that are consistent with the position’s responsibilities.

Qualifications:

·         High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.

·         Experience in a start-up environment or with project initiation.

·         At least two years of experience in program coordination, training administration, office management, outreach, education, legal services, labor, or a related setting.

·         Demonstrated ability to coordinate schedules, events, instructors, vendors, materials, records, and multiple priorities with strong organization, initiative, problem-solving, and attention to detail.

·         Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, presentation, and customer-service skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate across teams.

·         Experience supporting adult learners, union members, or diverse worker populations preferred.

·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, databases, virtual meeting platforms, and digital recordkeeping systems.

·         Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends; a valid driver’s license, reliable car, and ability to travel locally and to Cleveland approximately once per month are required.

·         Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
