RN – Med/Surg

Shift: 12-hour Days/Nights (0645-1915 or 1845-0715)

Facility Requirements

•  
• BLS required
• NIHSS required
• ACLS is a plus
• EMR: Sunrise

Unit Overview

• 52 private beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6–7 (typically 1:7)
• Charge nurse carries a full assignment
• 4–6 CNAs per shift (approx. 1:10–12)

Patient Population

• General Med/Surg
• Orthopedic post-op
• Neuro post-op (laminectomy, discectomy, spinal fusion)
• General surgery
• COPD
• Pneumonia
• Cellulitis
• Chest pain
• Hemodialysis patients
• Peritoneal dialysis experience is highly preferred

Required Skills

• Strong Med/Surg experience
• Comfortable with:
  • Heparin drips
  • PCA pumps
  • Post-op orthopedic and neuro patients
  • Medical diagnoses
• Experience with telemetry preferred (monitor tech reads strips)

Equipment/Support

• EMR: Sunrise
• IV Team and PICC Team available 24/7
• RT available 24/7
• Pharmacy/Pyxis available 24/7
• Uses BiPAP, CPAP, High Flow Oxygen

Scheduling

• Every other weekend
  • Days: Saturday/Sunday
  • Nights: Friday/Saturday
• Holiday rotation required
• Floating to other Med/Surg or Oncology units (may float to IMC for Med/Surg overflow only)
• No block scheduling

Orientation

• Hospital orientation
• 2 full unit orientation shifts
