Material Handler I

The Material Handler I is responsible for loading, unloading, or moving materials within the storage facility. Utilizes hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, conveyors, or other handling equipment to move material to and from trucks and within the storage facility. May record flow information of materials and products. Performs various operations, including unloading, picking and packing of goods. Works independently with limited direction from management.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

• Leads warehousing safety compliance by maintaining condition of work area (eg. free of trash, product in correct location, etc.), according to company safety policies and procedures and encourages other associates to do the same.
• Completes tasks such as sorting, picking, stocking, staging, and general handling of goods.
• Matches packing list information to actual packed merchandise.
• Prepares packages/merchandise for storage.
• Organizes, prepares, packs, and unpacks goods for storage.
• Efficiently operates forklifts, hand trucks or other machinery in order to complete tasks, and conducts regular inspection for safe operations.
• Follows defined policies pertaining to palletizing and preparing goods.
• May use electronic identification tools, scanners, stamps, tags, or other labeling equipment.
• Some use of tools (eg. hand tools, packing, banding, computer, and peripherals).
• May engage the use of a computer and peripherals for company related email and warehouse functions.
• Completes trainings and attends Company meetings as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One (1) to three (3) years of related experience.
• Forklift certification required.
• Specialized skills training/certification may be required.

Physical Demands

• Exposure to factors such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noises, and fumes, which may cause noticeable discomfort.

• Ability to stand for periods of time up to and exceeding 8 hours.
• Ability to make repetitive movements, including, but not limited to, bending, twisting, or squatting.
