Custodial Specialist

Position Purpose

Responsible for the overall care and cleanliness of the facilities and public areas of the Desert Botanical Garden.

Position Information:

Job Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Schedule: M-F 5:00pm - 1:00am

Pay: $20.00/hr

Essential Duties

• Perform daily and weekly routine cleaning and custodial maintenance on building facilities.
• Provide exemplary guest service for both internal and external guests
• Monitor inventory (cleaning supplies, paper products) for specific assigned work areas
• Understand and demonstrate the proper use of safety practices; ensure training standards are maintained for the department
• Remove trash from buildings and trails
• Undertake special cleaning projects including cleaning carpets, waxing floors, scrubbing walls, and cleaning glass
• Understand environmental, health, and safety best practices; follow established Garden policy, procedures, and training

Requirements

Competencies

• Two years of custodial experience
• Must be self-motivated with strong attention to detail
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations regarding chemicals used in cleaning
• Ability to operate floor equipment
• Must work well under pressure and multi-task
• Good communication and time management skills
• Valid driver's license required
• Ability to work off-hours with evenings, weekends, and/or holidays

Equipment Used

In addition to typical office equipment, this role will use vacuums (handheld and backpack units), mops, brooms, extensions, dusters, sprayers, scrubbers, toiletry, cleaning chemicals, and safety gear.

Internal Communication

Frequent communication with Garden employees and volunteers. Some communication with visitors.

External Communication

Limited

Working Conditions

Moderate physical effort beyond what's typically required in a normal office environment. Potential for tight deadlines or time periods of high workload may require additional hours. The noise level in the work environment can vary. This role may occasionally require outside work in extreme heat, cold and rain.

This role requires the ability to walk, sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, see, hear, speak, and type. Manual dexterity and the ability to lift, carry and push up to 50 pounds and climb ladders required.
