Our oncology practice is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to partner with our Medical Oncology Physician and healthcare team in delivering exceptional, patient-centered care. Dr. Malcolm Hayward, Dr. Dan Bradford, and Dr. Thad Beck knew that patients do better at home, in the community where they live and work, and where their support system is already in place. Job Summary Assist in the delivery of patient care and EMR utilization. Work directly with and assists physicians, nurses, and advance practice providers. Rooming MA Obtain and document height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and oxygen saturation. Report abnormal readings/findings. Report patient complaints, questions, or concerns Report changes in patient status immediately Chart prep, which includes: Fee tickets Lab results, scan reports, and other diagnostics Medication lists Visit notes Required documentation/patient data entry Enter patient's allergies, medications, medical, social, surgical, and family histories, cancer screenings, as well as, referring and patient's other physicians Review patient's medication list and keep it up to date. Comply with MIPS requirements Prepare patients for examination and/or procedures Keep exam and procedure rooms stocked with necessary supplies, linens, and instruments Complete weekly inventory of exam room and procedure room supplies and submit order to Supply Manager Monitor oxygen tanks and replace when empty Other possible duties: Prepare and sterilize instruments as needed May clean autoclave and change water weekly. Run control sterilization per protocol monthly. Clean and check full maintenance of autoclave quarterly. Clean door gasket bi-annually. Spanish interpretation for patients and providers. This only applies to those who meet criteria to be an Interpreter. All MAs Assist with procedures such as bone marrow biopsies Perform EKGs Perform diagnostic swabs, such as COVID and flu swabs Transport specimens to Lab During patient emergencies, may act as a 'runner' to obtain needed supplies and/or vital signs Replace laundry bags and sharps containers as needed Wipe down chairs in between patients Follow isolation precautions Requirements/Skills/Abilities Proficient in use of the EMR (electronic medical record) Attend required meetings and participate in a constructive manner Maintain patient confidentiality according to HIPAA rules and regulations. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to communicate clearly. All clinical knowledge, skills, and abilities to be evaluated during the first 90-days of hire and then on an annual basis thereafter. Perform related work as required. Certifications/Licenses/Education or Experience Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program or on the job training Registered Medical Assistant preferred BLS certification Physical Requirements Stamina and endurance - prolonged standing and walking for significant positions of each shift, which may consist of long hours. Strength and mobility - lifting and transferring patients in moving, repositioning, or transferring from wheelchairs or exam tables in addition to the possibility of moving medical equipment such as wheelchairs, IV stands, etc. Manual dexterity is required for precise hand movements related to inserting IV lines, handling instruments, and drawing blood. Physical Coordination needed for responding to emergencies quickly and efficiently along with fine motor skills that allow for good hand-eye coordination and steady hands. Flexibility and agility for reaching, bending, stooping, and quick adaptation to patient needs. Visual and auditory acuity is required for reading medical charts, monitoring patient vitals, and detecting physical changes in patients. Good hearing is needed to hear alarms, monitor beeping, and verbal communication from patients and coworkers. Good posture and proper body mechanics are key in performing repetitive and non-repetitive tasks. Physical resilience is needed to handle challenging situations like multiple patients with varying degrees of mobility and health.
