Guest Services & Concessions Associate

The Fair Oaks Performing Arts Center, operated by the Fair Oaks Recreation & Park District, serves as a vibrant cultural hub in the heart of Fair Oaks Village. The Guest Services & Concessions Associate supports the operations of the Fair Oaks Performing Arts Center and other District facilities by providing excellent customer service to patrons, assisting with concessions sales, and serving as a facility host during events and rentals. This role ensures a welcoming, safe, and efficient experience for all guests while maintaining cleanliness and compliance with District standards.

Under the direction of the Food & Beverage Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor the Guest Services & Concessions Associate provides front-line customer service and support for events, performances, and facility rentals at the Fair Oaks Performing Arts Center and other District venues. Responsibilities include operating concessions, assisting with food and beverage service, monitoring facility use, and ensuring a safe, welcoming, and positive experience for all patrons and renters. The position requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Work concessions and bar operations during events and performances
  • Set up and break down concession stations and mobile bars when necessary
  • Operate and reconcile point-of-sale systems; manage cash handling
  • Maintain standard operating procedures for food & beverage operations
  • Ensure excellent customer service and smooth operational flow during events
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of all F&B areas
  • Monitor facility rentals and serve as the on-site host.
  • Greet renters, review facility usage and safety guidelines, and ensure compliance throughout the event.
  • Review usage and safety guidelines with staff as needed.
  • Unlock and prepare/set up facilities in advance of scheduled activities.
  • Secure facilities after scheduled activities, ensuring all doors are locked and all persons have exited.
  • Maintain minimum cleanliness and maintenance standards for facilities. May perform light cleaning before or after events as needed.
  • Ensure all required rental paperwork is completed and submitted to the Recreation Supervisor after each event.

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of basic food and beverage service operations.
  • Principles of customer service and public interaction.
  • Facility use and safety standards.

Knowledge, Skill and Experience:

Basic food and beverage service operations in event or performing arts settings, including point-of-sale systems, cash handling, and customer service practices. Awareness of food safety, sanitation, and alcohol service guidelines is required.

  1. Minimum Education required: High school diploma or GED preferred. Six months of experience in customer service, concessions, food & beverage, or hospitality is desirable.
  2. Minimum Experience required: Prior experience in concessions, catering, or event services preferred; experience in a live event, performing arts, or recreation setting is a plus.
  3. Other requirements: Must pass a pre-employment background check and fingerprinting. ServSafe Food Handler certification and Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire. Reliable transportation to and from work is required.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and the Microsoft Office Suite of products and possess typing skills of at least 40-50 wpm. Knowledge of basic office equipment should include Internet and email, copy and fax machines, postage meter, telephone, and answering machine.

Physical And Emotional Demands:

  • Climbing ladders and stairs to rig lighting equipment.

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling heavy objects up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Exposed to dust, noise, machinery, moving objects and other vehicles. Performs simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation. May be exposed to constant vibration of equipment for prolonged periods. The position also requires near and far vision when inspecting and performing work activities, operating vehicles, tools, and equipment, and preparing paperwork and reports. Performs heavy physical labor, such as lifting (up to 30-50 pounds), carrying heavy objects, and using a shovel and other equipment to dig. Climbs ladder and works at heights. Exposure to fumes, dust, and air contaminants which may cause eye and skin irritation.

Work Environment:

Indoor and outdoor environment. Theater environment. Evening or variable hours. Driving a vehicle to conduct work. Hazards include working at heights. Typically works outdoors in varied weather conditions with exposure to sun, heat and inclement weather. Possible exposure to traffic and other potential hazards. Regularly works inside and maintains District facilities. May be assigned to work weekends, holidays and irregular hours based on District scheduling needs. May be assigned to work during emergencies, seasonally caused circumstances, or special projects and/or events in varying climate and temperature conditions.
