Rehabilitation Technician

: Position Title: Rehabilitation Technician FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Director of Clinical Support, Therapy Leadership POSITION SUMMARY: Performs patient activities for both inpatient and outpatient therapy needs as directed by the Director of Clinical Support and Therapy Leadership, in accordance with established policies and procedures of the hospital. Starting Wage: $15.693 The posted wage is the current starting wage for this position. Actual wage is dependent on the applicant's relevant experience and qualifications for this position. The wage range for this position may be subject to change in the future depending on a variety of factors such as market conditions, business needs, legal developments, and other appropriate factors. Teamwork - Work together for success. PATIENT CARE ACTIVITIES As directed by the Director of Clinical Support and Therapy Leadership:

• Upon admission assesses patients in the areas of mobility, activities of daily living (ADL), and speech therapy.
• Obtains information such as vital signs and weights during the admission process.
• Communicates to keep team informed about patient related issues.
• Assists with gathering and transporting patients for scheduled therapy, as well as gathering equipment and supplies to and from various areas.
• Assists with supervising patients for meals as needed.
• Assists therapist with group therapy community outings and assists with patient transport as needed.
• Understands the diversity of patient's needs, and demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient.

CLINIC/ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT ACTIVITIES

• Assembles and disassembles equipment, and prepares areas for treatment as directed by the therapist.
• Assists with therapy equipment distribution, cleaning, and maintenance.
• Assists therapy with scheduling of patients as needed.
• Assists with general office procedures as needed.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

• Reports equipment that is out of order, secures equipment in designated area.
• Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures, disaster plans and procedures.
• Responds appropriately to emergencies such as Code 500, Fire or Disaster drills, Code Green, etc.
• Follows and enforces Infection Control policies and procedures:

1. Universal precautions 2. Use of gloves 3. Isolation precaution 4. Disposal of contaminated items 5. Hand washing technique pre and post patient care and other related activities.

• Practices safety guidelines required for safe mobility, transfer, proper body mechanics in the delivery of patient care and performance of job duties.
• Uses appropriate equipment for personal and patient safety.
• Performs patient safety goals established by the organization in the daily provision of patient care. Examples but not limited to: using two (2) patient identifiers in the performance of patient care; frequent rounds, observation and documentation of patients considered high risk, bedside report with the incoming shift for patient endorsement; equipment checks such as RN alert, call lights and other related patient care equipment.
• Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
• Assists with the safety and maintenance of patient areas and equipment such as ADL and/or mobility equipment.
• Assists with up-keeping of therapy maintenance logs to include temperatures and cleaning schedules.
• Assists with pool therapy supervision as needed.

• Keeps self updated on hospital and unit announcements, including updated policies and procedures.
• Offers recommendations to improve processes and/or operations of the department.
• Participate in continuous improvement projects.

SCOPE OF PRACTICE: The population served includes individuals affected by stroke, orthopedic related conditions, brain and spinal cord injury, amputation, major multiple trauma, and other neurological and medical conditions. REHAB's patients range from pre-teen to geriatric age ranges. JOB SPECIFICATIONS: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Certification/Licensure:

• Current BLS certification
• Completion of competencies and other job-related and REHAB requirements.

Education:

• High school graduate or equivalent.

Skills/Experience:

• One (1) year of applicable work experience in nursing or allied health such as in OT, PT, Speech, Kinesiology, Personal Training, Medical Assistant, etc; or completion of at least one (1) year of clinical rotations/affiliations in a nursing or allied health program or personal trainer certification program; or completion of two (2) years of college, majoring in health services, rehabilitation services or related field.
• Must satisfactorily complete REHAB's on-the-job training program.
• Ability to safely and effectively manage patients' mobility.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Certification/Licensure:

• Valid State of Hawaii driver's license.

EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, WORK AIDS USED A wide variety of industrial and educational materials, computers, machines, tools and equipment as used in OT, PT, Speech and Recreational Therapy. Knowledge of Google's G Suite and databases.
