Grounds Maintenance Worker

Job TitleThe purpose of this classification is to operate equipment and perform manual work functions associated with construction, repair, and maintenance of the City's Stormwater system.Job responsibilities include performing manual work functions associated with Stormwater system construction, maintenance and repair; maintaining, cleaning, building and/or repairing catch basins and storm drains; repairing pipeline breaks and leaks; cleaning tension ponds; cutting and pouring concrete and asphalt; installing pipe; digging holes or trenches; replacing sidewalks and curbs; shoveling materials; lifting and moving heavy materials. Additionally, the role involves transporting, loading and unloading various equipment and materials used in assigned projects, performing general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in good working condition, adhering to established safety procedures, preparing, typing, proofreading, and/or completing various forms, reports, work reports, vehicle inspection reports, lists, directories, logs, notices, charts, graphs, spreadsheets, or other documents, receiving various forms, reports, correspondence, work orders, policies, procedures, manuals, handbooks, directories, reference materials, or other documentation; reviewing, completing, proofreading, processing, forwarding or retaining as appropriate, communicating with supervisor, crew members, other Town employees, and the public as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give/receive advice/direction, operating a variety of equipment, machinery and tools used in Stormwater system construction, maintenance and repair, including a dump truck, trailer, back hoe, boring machine, tamp, tapping machine, pipe horn, pipe saw, mower, jackhammer, shovel, rakes, pick axe, mechanical tools or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, performing other street and rights of way maintenance duties as needed, and may perform lead guidance and direction to other crew members as assigned.Knowledge, skills and abilities include data utilization, human interaction, equipment, machinery, tools, and materials utilization, verbal aptitude, mathematical aptitude, functional reasoning, and situational reasoning.Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED; supplemented by six (6) months of experience in equipment operation, construction or maintenance work, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s). Must possess and maintain the following certifications: Flagging, Confined Space, CPR, and Erosion and Sediment. Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
