Surgical Technician

This job ensures availability of equipment and supplies for endoscopy and surgical procedures; exhibits skills to competently scrub and assist for endoscopy procedures, and performs other duties as assigned by the RN. Education Required: Graduation from an accredited surgical technologist program or military program (online programs not accepted) OR 5 years of Surgical Technologist Experience. Work Experience Required: None. Preferred: 1 year of experience in a similar medical setting. Certifications Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association. Preferred: Certification in surgical technology. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques. Knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and instrumentation. Basic analytical skills. Proficiency in computers and web applications. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including 24/7, weekend, holiday, and on-call availability. Job Duties Performs direct patient care duties. Organizes activities and supplies based on surgery schedule and departmental needs. Provides patient care in accordance with their age and developmental stage under the supervision of the staff nurse. Communicates patient care information to patients, family members, and coworkers. Maintains required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training, and credentials. Adapts to rapid changes in the department due to census, acuity, and resource availability. Performs other related duties as required. Physical and Environmental Demands Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds frequently, or 10 to 20 constantly to move objects; some tasks may be rated as Light Work when requiring walking, standing, or pushing/pulling. Duties routinely require exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, hazardous medications, and hazardous waste. Occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases may exist.
