Pharmacist (Associate Chief)

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Assists in maintaining close liaison with clinical and administrative services while assisting in the overall responsibility to monitor all medical center and outpatient clinic programs and reporting to the Chief, Pharmacy Service potential service and resource requirements.
• Works with Chief, Pharmacy Service, applies knowledge of administrative and managerial techniques to guide and control complex, multi-level activities at a variety of sites, plans organization changes, coordinates with other services, and makes effective use of available resources in achieving established goals.
• Effectively develops annual budget information and maintains effective fund control accountability throughout the fiscal year. This includes advanced accounting principles applied to trend drug budget growth and methods to manage the budget in a fiscally responsible manner.
• Manages an effective quality assurance and performance improvement program for the entire Pharmacy Service through close coordination with the Pharmacy Service Supervisors and Program Managers.
• Provides oversight and evaluation of all new automation initiatives within the Pharmacy Service and coordinate these projects with other affected services in the Medical Center.
• Interviews employee candidates, recommends appointments, and evaluates employee performance. Initiates action based on employee's performance as necessitated, including documentation and recommendation for awards, counseling and disciplinary actions.
• Interprets policy, procedures, and philosophy for pharmacy and medical staff.
• Effectively maintains resource accountability utilizing sound fiscal accounting techniques and pharmacoeconomic principles.
• Is the direct front line supervisor over the inpatient, ambulatory care, supply and administrative sections of the Pharmacy. Works with front line supervisors to assure smooth transition of services in all sections and between all sections.
• Effectively assists in the development and maintenance of pertinent clinical pharmacy programs from cost and patient outcome perspective.
• Identifies problems that affect patient care programs and effectively utilizes problem-solving techniques to resolve these problems.
• Collaborates with the Manager of each section in Pharmacy to promote learning experiences and improve performance levels of Pharmacy personnel.
• Identifies potential candidates for positions of higher responsibility and plans/assists in their HPDM related developmental experiences.
• Provides direct actions that assure investigational drugs are maintained and used in compliance with VA and FDA regulations.
• Encourage and support all service-related efforts to provide original or collaborative research activities. Ensures that all research endeavors follow sound research principles, are supportive of medical center goals and have a pharmacoeconomic component.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility.
