divh2Physician - Cardiac Anesthesia/h2pThe Cardiac Anesthesiologist is responsible for examining patients, reviewing their medical history, determining the physical status of the patient, informing the patient of all risks/side effects associated with anesthesia, monitoring and evaluating patient care throughout the surgical process, and ensuring patient safety. The position manages patients throughout the continuum of hospital care by collaborating with other medical professionals./ppEssential Job Functions:/pulliRefer patients to medical specialists or other professionals as appropriate./liliObtain and/or verify patient consent/liliDiscuss anesthetic options and risks with the patient/liliOrder and administer analgesics/sedatives during the perioperative period./liliEvaluate the patient throughout the perioperative period./liliDetermine the physical status of the patient and plan accordingly./liliMonitor and provide support of vital functions, including, but not limited to, management of ventilation and administration of fluids and blood products./liliAirway management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation./liliRespond to emergencies and unexpected complications./liliAbility to make decisions in a highly stressful environment/liliPrescribe medications as appropriate./liliDocument throughout the perioperative period./liliFinalize Anesthesia Records/liliExcellent phone etiquette/liliParticipate in Independence Health System Medical Group meetings and leadership meetings upon request./liliOther duties as assigned./li/ulpCompetency and Experience [Knowledge, Skills and Abilities]/ppRequired Qualifications/Experience:/pulliDoctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree/liliCardiac Anesthesia Fellowship/lili3 years of experience in anesthesiology./liliStrong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice./liliStrong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience./li/ulpPreferred Qualifications/Experience:/pulliExperience in Healthcare setting./li/ulpLicense, Certification Clearances:/pulliCurrent medical license in the state of Pennsylvania./liliBoard Certification or Board eligible by the American Board of Anesthesiology/liliAct 33 with renewal/liliAct 34 with renewal/liliAct 73 FBI Clearance/liliCurrent BLS (Basic Life Support)/liliCurrent ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)/liliCurrent PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)/liliDEA License./li/ulpPosition Type/Expected Hours of Work:/pulliIncumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.)./liliTravel may be expected locally between System locations./li/ulpEqual Employment Opportunity:/ppIndependence Health and its affiliated companies are Equal Opportunity Employers.
