Child and Family Therapist

The Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center (GLIIHC) is seeking a compassionate, creative, and trauma-informed Child and Family Therapist to provide outpatient behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and their families. The ideal candidate is passionate about helping youth build the skills and resilience needed to navigate mental health, emotional, social, behavioral, and situational challenges. This position will provide individual and family therapy using developmentally appropriate, evidence-based, and trauma-informed interventions. The therapist will collaborate with parents, caregivers, schools, and other providers as appropriate to coordinate care and ensure youth and families receive the support needed to thrive. GLIIHC is committed to culturally responsive care that honors the strengths, traditions, and experiences of the Native community. Clinical consultation, training, and professional development in Native-specific evidence-based and culturally based practices will be provided. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES):
- Responsible for providing individual, family, and group therapy for children and adolescents in the Woodland Behavioral Health - Child & Adolescent Clinic.
- Responsible for completing mental health assessments and treatment planning for youth and adults;
- Responsible for assessing youth for safety and risk to self or others and taking appropriate crisis intervention measures when indicated;
- Participates in multidisciplinary clinical staffing meetings and case consultations with the Woodland Behavioral Health team.
- Consults and refers children and adolescents for psychological testing;
- Provides crisis intervention services within an integrated care setting.
- Provides on-call services within the Woodland Behavioral Health after-hours rotation schedule;
- Coordinates with families, community service providers, school service providers, and case management to maintain continuity of care;
- Coordinates with teachers, guidance counselors, families, and school administrators when appropriate;
- Makes referrals to internal and external providers to meet the youth's needs;
- Maintains strict confidentiality according to the Federal and state guidelines and requirements;
- Exemplifies personal conduct style, which is reflected in an appropriate role;
- Responsible for keeping charts up-to-date in a timely manner for certification processes;
- Responsible for operations within the department to ensure services are provided in a manner that meets all applicable licensure, certification, and accrediting regulations.
- Maintains proper certification and licensure that is up-to-date accrediting standards for State Certified Mental Health Programs.
- Upholds the Professional Code of Ethics;
- Maintains a cooperative relationship with employees, medical staff, school staff, and others.
- Adheres to and supports facility policies, programs, and activities;
- Demonstrates tact, courtesy, and a positive approach to communication and interactions with other employees, visitors, physicians, etc.
- Documents all services in the electronic medical record (OCHIN EPIC) and maintains strict confidentiality per federal and state guidelines.
- Responsible for personal development to ensure current knowledge and application of culturally sensitive treatment interventions for American Indian and Alaska Native child mental health;
- Support grant deliverables for a variety of programs such as risk assessments, trainings, outreach, workshops, and other community-based services.
- Provides education and training to staff regarding mental health and wellness-related topics.
- Provides hands-on support, serves on subcommittees, and represents the Behavioral Health Department at health center events as assigned.
- Perform any other job-related duties as specified by supervisor;
- Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and drug-free environment;
- Implements Performance Improvement measures in appropriate areas;
- Willingness to work beyond what is required periodically and travel for continuing education hours.
- Master's or Doctoral Degree in Marriage & Family Therapy, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related field, certified by the State of Wisconsin as a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
- Must have experience and competent skills in providing couples and/or family therapy.
- Prior experience working with children, adolescents, and families in a professional setting.
- Individual applicants from out of state must have a license that is transferable to Wisconsin.
- Training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy preferred.
- Prefer experience in mental health and/or school-based setting as a licensed mental health therapist.
- Prefer experience in a youth-specific setting as a licensed counselor with group, family, and individual counseling skills.
- Play therapy and child trauma treatment skills preferred.
- Knowledge of evidence-based treatment interventions for youth and families.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Interact in a confidential, dependable, honest, professional, and trustworthy manner with patients, employees, and community agencies.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture, traditions, and healing practices.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and electronic health records (OCHIN EPIC preferred).
