MachinistThe Machinist is responsible for operating machine tools to produce precision metal parts. This position is part of the Kollmorgen team in Radford, VA and is a designated Weekend Shift role, working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday on 12-hour shifts. Kollmorgen is part of Regal Rexnord.Key Responsibilities:Program and operate CNC lathes and milling machines to perform precision machining operationsSet up machines, fixtures, and tooling to ensure accurate part productionInterpret blueprints, drawings, and engineering specifications to determine machining methodsSelect and recommend appropriate tooling, feeds, and speeds for machining operationsPerform first-piece and in-process inspections to ensure tolerance and quality requirements are metMaintain tight tolerances and dimensional accuracy across complex machining operationsTroubleshoot machining issues and identify defective materials or abnormal conditionsCollaborate with Quality and Manufacturing Engineering teams to ensure product qualityDesign or modify fixtures and tooling to support production and special engineering needsMaintain equipment, work area cleanliness, and adherence to all safety proceduresRequired Skills and Qualifications:Associates degree in Machine Technology or related field or equivalent experience (at least 5 years relevant experience)Strong knowledge of machining processes, tools, and equipmentAbility to read and interpret blueprints and technical specificationsStrong mathematical skills (geometry, tolerances, measurements)Ability to maintain high precision and tight tolerancesStrong problem-solving, decision-making, collaboration, and communication skillsAbility to work independently and manage multiple tasksPreferred Skills and Qualifications:Experience with CNC programming (lathe and milling)Experience designing or modifying fixtures and toolingExperience working in a manufacturing or precision machining environmentPhysical Demand and Work Environment:The physical demands and work environmental characteristics described here are representative of those an employee must meet, with or without reasonable accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
