POSITION SUMMARY

The Certified Nursing Assistant(CNA) provides each resident with routine daily nursing care and services in

accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan with a passionate focus on customer service. This

position will strive to offer an enlightened approach to providing comprehensive and individualized care while

preserving each resident’s independence.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

A. Role Responsibilities- Care:

• Records all entries on flow sheets, notes, charts, etc., in an informative and descriptive manner.

• Reports all changes in resident’s condition to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse immediately.

• Assists residents with daily bathing functions, hair and nail hygiene needs, dental and mouth care.

• Assists residents with dressing/undressing as necessary.

• Position residents in correct and in proper body alignment.

• Aids residents with bowel and bladder functions (i.e., assist as needed to the bathroom/toilet, assist as

needed with bedside commode, offer bedside commode and assist as needed; performing assistance at all

times as stated in the resident’s plan of care)

• Ensures incontinent residents are clean and dry.

• Supports/Assists residents in preparing for activities/social events (i.e., church services, parties, visitors, etc.

• Assists in transporting residents to/from in-house appointments, activities, in-house church services and

special facility events etc.

• Aids in lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transferring residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs,

wheelchairs, lifts, etc., as per policy and care plan.

• Maintains and records accurate weights and measurements of residents.

• Responds to/answers resident call lights promptly.

• Checks each resident routinely to ensure that his/her personal care needs are being met in accordance with

his/her wishes.

• Reports all injuries of any kind immediately.

• Assists with the application of slings, elastic bandages, binders, etc. under the direct supervision of a

licensed nurse who will do any wrapping/adjusting of these devices.

• Observes disoriented and comatose residents; records and reports data as instructed.

B. Role Responsibilities – Food Service:

• Prepares residents for meals (i.e., takes to bathroom, washes hands, combs hair, positions tables,

places clothing protector, takes to/from dining room, etc.)

• Records the resident’s food/fluid intake and reports changes in the resident’s eating habits or consumption.

• Performs after meal care (i.e. clean resident’s hands, face, clothing, take to bathroom, brush teeth,

clean denture, etc.)

C. Role Responsibilities – Safety and Infection Control:

• Immediately notifies the Supervisor of any resident leaving/missing from the facility.

• Follows all safety, and OSHA precautions in the performance of all duties.

• Reports all accidents/incidents, safety violations, hazardous conditions, or defective equipment

according to facility policies.

• Follows established fire, disaster, and evacuation policies and procedures.

• Reports any communicable or infectious disease.

• Ensures that established infection control and standard precaution practices are maintained

when performing nursing procedures according facility policies.

D. Role Responsibilities – Resident Care/Dignity:

• Maintains the confidentiality of all resident care information and complies with all HIPAA standards.

• Ensures that all residents are treated fairly, with kindness, dignity, and respect. Any deviation observed,

heard or communicated will be immediately addressed per the Abuse Policy including eliminating any

immediate threat.

• Ensures that all nursing care is provided in privacy.

• Upholds compliance with all rules regarding Residents’ Rights.

• Immediately reports all allegations of misappropriation of resident property according to facility policy.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must possess, as a minimum, a GED or High School Diploma

• Must have and maintain an active searchable Certified Nursing Assistant certification in accordance with the

state in which the facility resides.

• Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to

handle difficult situations.

• Must create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, care, and support for residents.

• Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty-five pounds.

• Must meet health assessment requirements set forth by the policies of this facility and the state,

including medicaland physical examination, two stage Mantoux skin tests and one-step annually or

Xray.

• Must be capable of performing the essential functions of the job.

• Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for an extended period of time bend, but also be able

squat, kneel, and bend frequently.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

• May be subject to the exposure of infectious waste, diseases, and conditions.

• May be exposed to blood, body fluids, or tissues.

• May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals including tobacco smoke.

• May be requested to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situation.
